Athens Gate is located opposite Gates of Olympian Zeus by Syggrou Avenue, maybe a 5 minutes walk to Acropolis museum and Acropolis metro stop, and 15 minutes walk to Syndagma.Of course you can just hop on metro to reach Syndagma if you wish to head there without walking. It is not a bad location, just not as handy as King George which is bang on on Syndagma Square (by Greek Parliament). From Syndagma Square and through Ermou street towards Monastiraki etc, you can have access to most major sites on pedestrianised streets, while from Athens Gate it still a walk along busy roads till you reach Acropolis area and great pedestrian Dionisiou Areopagitou. Athens Gate is a modern hotel.King George is an historical hotel and this reflects on its architecture, decoration and ... rates. Actually King George was originaly a small palace served as an annex palace to the palace that is today the Greek parlianment building. It has been served as a ministers' residents and after it become a private property and a hotel it hosted celebrities and famous politicians such as Aristotle Onassis and Maria Kallas, Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco, Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Frank Sinatra, and Franηois Mitterrand. It is member of Leading Hotel of the World. One of its first guests was King George II,albeit the name. I have been only in some of the public areas of those hotels, never stayed there. King George simply has this "old worldly" charm that migh or might not appeal to everyone. Athens Gate is an absolutely adequate hotel that could be anywhere in the world-of course as on most Athens hotels it has a roof top restaurant with Acropolis view that you can not get everywhere in the world though lol
