36 hours in Madrid

We are a family with kids 9 &14 and will be in Madrid for a day and a half in June. We are staying at Hotel Petit Palace Posada del Peine.

Please give us some suggestions on what to do, where to eat etc. with the kids. Also, are there any luggage storage areas in the airport. We are flying in from JFK and will be leaving late night for our connection onwards.

Thanks.

Since you will be right in the heart of Madrid, very close to Puerta del Sol, there is a lot for you to see and do, but I suggest you take a look at Maribel's Guide to Madrid (http://maribelsguides.com) first. It will help in planning your day.

I threw 'Madrid with kids' into the google search and came up with multiple websites. Give it a try, it'll give you ideas. Better yet, have the kids look them up so it's their ideas and decisions.

If they aren't too jet-lagged, kids might enjoy rowing a boat in Retiro Park.

-double deck tourist bus
-chocolate con churros at san ginés
-the funicular over to casa de campo
-walk around gardens at palacio real

go to www.aena.es for all airport information. there are luggage storage 24 hr. places. best to store nearest your departure terminal.

i like Séptimo restaurant on diego de leon,7.metro nuñez be balboa.(not far from the american embassy, and next to calle serrrano, great shopping street.)

very pleasant menu. vegetarian dishes also advertised. there is always something recognizable for foreigners and great desserts on top of it.
