3 nights in Douro Valley activities (other than wine touring!)

We’ll be staying at Quinta do Pego (thanks, Maribel!) for 3 nights. The Douro Valley follows 3 weeks of travel so this should be a nice chance to chill out. We’ll be coming from Coimbra and going to Guimaraes after the Douro. This may be heresy, but we are not big drinkers, so multiple quinta tours and tastings are not something we’re that interested in. Having a tasting in our hotel and maybe one other will be plenty.

I’m interested in nice walks (not serious hikes!) with beautiful views, gorgeous drives with great views, any activities that maximize the experience of being in this region. Small towns, quirky interesting activities. Good viewpoints.

A train ride from Pinhao to Lamego was suggested, which sounds fun. I like the idea of the Coa Valley archeological site but I think it’s a longer drive than we want from Pinhao. Any other destinations within the region that we should consider?

Many thanks! I’m counting the days!

We're hoping to take a train ride from Pinhao to Pocinho and return, strictly for the views. Not familiar with Lamego, is that the same train ride?

Melnq8 - My friend suggested Pocinho, though the site in the link she sent says Lamego, It’s possible she sent a link in error so I’ll need to check on that.

Lamego, progol, it’s charming with a magnificent staircase, similar to the one between Braga and Guimarães. The center of the town is pretty and has a small but nice Fine Arts museum, a castle and the main square is lined with cafés.

Ditto to the train to Pocinho from Piñhão or a boat ride (schooner or rabelo boat) up river.

Many thanks, Maribel! My friend also clarified - she sent me a link to Lamego for a drive and also suggested the train ride to Pocinho. They both sound perfect and will give us things to do while we’re in the Douro valley region.

And don’t forget the drives up to the miradouros for stunning views.

I won’t forget - I just need to organize the pieces! But I do have time for that, now that I have a couple of pieces to play with!😉
