3 extra days between Berner Oberland and flying to Gatwick--suggestions?
This coming July, after spending a week in the B/O, we have 3 extra days before heading to the UK for another week. Had planned on a lakefront respite on Lake Lucerne (perhaps Weggis, Hergiswil, or Vitznau), but am also checking into other lake areas. Any suggestions? We'll have a car.
Thanks!

Sorry. I just realized my posting was incomplete.
We'll be flying out of Zurich into Gatwick. So the 3 days will be spent in Switzerland.
So glad I caught that before the police hauled me over...
Thanks!

Hi kopp,
Lake Luzern (Weggis, etc) is a great idea! I think the scenery is spectacular, and you can spend your days on the trails around the lake. But another suggestion might be Rapperswil on Lake Zurich. Rapperswil is less touristed and has a very charming old town & an old castle; it's also nicely situated for day-trips. The only drawback is that the scenery is less spectacular because there are no mountains spilling directly into the lake.
Good luck on your research.

For a beautiful splurge, try the Park Hotel on Lake Lucerne in Vitznau. It's a higher level hotel, with an incomparable location, great service, private parking, excellent restaurant, and convenient to things like the cogwheel to Mt Rigi or the lake ferry. Good luck.

Yes, Wayne, the Park Hotel is wonderful. We stayed there last summer for 4 nights in one of their suites (pleasant upgrade upon arrival--especially since it was very hot and the suites had a/c!!) I recently received a letter from the owners stating they had sold the place to a German couple.
When you've stayed at the Park Hotel, it's hard to change hotels. But I thought maybe this trip I'd try perhaps something else.
