My husband and will be spending 3 days in Rome in March 2001. Any hints about what is a must see? Appreciate any ideas/comments/suggestions. Thanks. My email address is: [email protected]

Your first three most crucial stops:

1. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...979136-1359106 - - the list of the top 100 best selling tour books about Rome; my own top selections would be Eyewitness, Rick Steves, Fodor's and Frommers. I am not familiar with their number one best seller - - City Secrets: Rome.

2. http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/mgr...ur_section=ove - - you will likely want to click on Sights and Activities on the lefthand side.

3. www.twenj.com/rome - - wonderful because Ed is a regular here, and you can correspond directly with him (and Julie) when you have more specific questions formulated.

Your "must-sees" should include the Colosseum, St. Peter's and the Vatican Museum - - and ideally one whole day for the things that particularly appeal to YOU specifically.

Ed and Julie put this important reminder at the top of their Rome page: Non basta una vita - - a lifetime is not enough!

Best wishes,

Rex

In addition, you must see, up close and personal,a bottle or two of the incredible Castello Banfi, Brunello di Montulcino. It is the best red wine in the world, and it is liquid velvet!!!

Also, the Forum, Pantheon, St. Peters, Baths of Caricalla or Diocletion, etal

Hi! Rome here. Don't miss: Ostia Antica ruins, just outside Rome, near the sea, the Ara Pacis in the centre. A nice walk: start from 1 the Terme di Caracalla, go to 2 the Circo Massimo, the 3 Bocca della Verità, 4 Circo di Massenzio, 5 Piazza Venezia, go upstair and have a look at 6 the Campidoglio and 7 the Musei Capitolini, downstairs, 8 Via dei Fori Imperiali, 9 Colosseo and 10 Foro Romano (1 day tour but u can see most of the Imperial Rome). In the night have a romantic walk along the lungotevere and the bridges. Enjoy

We were there in August and had a private guide with a car. In 4 hours, he took us everywhere with the exception of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel, which we did ourselves the next day. It was well worth it, as it was the same cost as 2 of us taking 2 prive tours. It was agreat way to travel.
If you are interested, I can find the guide's name. I will be back from vacation 12/30 so let me know. Email
