3 Days in London - family trip - February

Arriving on Friday, February 21st around 10am. We rented a two bedroom apartment in China Town on Gerrard. It'll be me, my husband, and our 10 and 11 year old boys. The boys enjoy history and food. They also like a nice park to run around in. The main purpose of this trip is to visit Belgium, that's why our London time is short.

Friday we'll just force ourselves to walk around and stay awake. Do some grocery shopping. Get settled. Maybe visit the British Museum since it's free and open late on Friday.

Saturday - spend the day in Greenwich visiting the Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory. The boys want to stand on the Prime Meridian.

Sunday -Tower of London, boat ride down the river, Churchill War Rooms, then maybe the organ concert at Westminster at 1745. That way we can see Westminster without the 100 Euro entrance for a family of 4.

Monday - considering a trip to Stonehenge. Not sure the best way to do this with 4 people.

Tuesday - train to Brussels.

We do not want to do the London Eye, Harry Potter (the kids aren't fans), or anything soccer or tennis related. What else can we fit in? I realize our time is limited. And any suggestions on Stonehenge? Thanks in advance.

I'd make at least one change. Greenwich is great (highly recommend) - but it won't take an entire day. So I'd get to the Tower of London first thing Saturday morning - then around lunch time take the boat to Greenwich and spent the rest of the afternoon there. (Or you can take the DLR from Tower Gateway to either Island Gardens and walk UNDER the Thames through the foot tunnel or take the DLR right into Greenwich/Cutty Sark

That will free up a massive amount of time to reogaize your Sunday. Me personally - such a short visit and with the likelihood of bad weather -- I would NOT do a day trip to Stonehenge. I'd probably go to Hampton Court Palace instead - or visit some of the wonderful museums for kids (British, Science, Natural History, etc)

I'm thinking we'll get a later start on Saturday. With the jet lag, the boys usually sleep in a bit on our first day.

I'm thinking about the British Museum on arrival day. It's open late on Fridays and it's free. If they get cranky after an hour, no loss.

I would not do any museums -- definitely not the British -- on your arrival day. You think they get cranky?? Just look at them in a hot crowded museum WITH JET LAG and after no sleep on an overnight flight. Now THAT will be cranky

I'd get them up by 8 or 9 AM on Saturday (yeah I know but since you will likely be in bed by 9-9:30 PM on Friday evening, 8:30-ish should be doable on Saturday.)

Sunrise should be around 0700 and sunset around 1700 so days will be short and probably dank. So getting up early as Janisj suggests is advisable. You can do Stonehenge if the weather is decent. Easiest way is via one of the bus tours that leave from Victoria. Often these tours include Bath or some other points of interest in the general direction. Agree with the Natural history and Science museums. Consider taking the boys to see Mousetrap.

If you click on my user name, you will find my family trip report for London. I highly recommend the English Bus tour to Stonehenge--truly a highlight of our trip.
