2days in les Baux, can't drive, what to do?

I plan to go to Provence in mid-June and spend two days in Les Baux. Since I can't drive, want can I do in the village? Any interesting places that nearby? (which should be reached by public transport or bicycle) Can anyone give advice? Thanks.

is it too late to change your base? les baux is not very interesting. it is a tourist village that now just revolves around the ruins site. frankly, it would be my last choice of places to be 'stranded' in provence. i could happily relax for two days in just about any town or village in the area...but les baux...no thanks.

I will have to agree, Les Baux is pretty and interesting to see but is 100 percent geared to tourism with most of the locals living in the more modern part of the village down the hill. It doesnt really have the "feel" of a true provencial village.

Not sure about public transportation but if you are willing to ride your bike on highways you could go over to Glanum which is a roman ruins site that is very interesting. Its only about a 10 minute drive from Les Baux so it shouldnt take too long by bike.

After completely visiting Les Baux, you can always watch television in your hotel room for the other 44 hours.

Where are you staying in Les Baux ? There's really nothing to do there after you've visited the town itself, unless you love hiking, in which case you can do a lot of walking. The biking is also good - but hilly.

I live in Maussane - which is only five minutes from Les Baux, and there is a small shuttle type bus that goes between Les Baux, St. Remy and Maussane.... regular bus from Maussane to Aix, Salon, Arles, etc.

If you opted for a place like Arles, you could visit places like Nimes and Avignon by train.

St Remy de Provence is just a few miles over the hill from Les Baux and this is a neat town - consummate Provencal town with tree-line streets and lots of Van Gogh traces. He lived a bit in the local nut house and painted many pictures of the area - at the insane asylum that's still there they have posted copies of his pictures at places he painted them
So a day in St Remy (occasional buses or not a long taxi ride) may solve you Les Baux boredom potential.

It's been a few years (hmmmm -- the year Princess Diana died) since I've been there. But although we had a car, we specifically left it in St. Remy and took a bus out to Les Baux -- which was interesting enough for a couple hours. But the main plan was to take a hike from les Baux back to St. Remy. Unfortunately we found the trail head and there was a sign that due to some washout, the trail was closed. We waited half the day to get another bus back to St. Remy as we didn't want to walk along the very busy road.
I've always wanted to go back and do that hike, which is supposed to be very scenic.

Oh, from all your reply, 2 days for Les Baux really seems to be too much. In my plan, I will go to Arles for 2 days, St. Remy for another 2 days, then Les Baux for 2 days as well staying in Le Prince Noir B&B. Now, I'm thinking of cutting one night in Les Baux. So, any nice places that I can go near the areas I mentioned?

Stay in St Remy. You can bike to Glaunum and the Antiquities (ancient ruins. There are markets, food and flea, restaurants, wonderful shops and food as well as chocolates at the handsome J. Durand.

There are buses from Nimes to the Pont du Gard, so you might want to spend a night there.
