2 weeks; London, Paris and ??
My husband and I will fly into London and out of Paris with 2 weeks in the end of May. Planning on 3 days in London, Chunnel to Brussels ending with 3 days on Paris. Any suggestions for our 7 days in between? Maybe points in Southern England, Belgium, France. Tips for this area. We'll travel by train.

Kristine, Since you're going to London and Paris, I assume that you're interested in art, history, and architecture. If so, I would consider staying four days in London, and using one day to make a trip to the city of Bath via Salisbury and Stonehenge. You can arrange for a bus tour at your London hotel for this daytrip or go on your own. Then I would head directly to Paris on the Eurostar train. Spend five entire days in Paris, and use the other three days to drive thru the Loire valley and catch the following "must-see" sights: Chartres Cathedral, Chateau d'Angers, Chateau d'Usse, Chateau d'Azay le Rideau, Chateau de Chenonceau, and the Chateau de Chambord. Have a great time, London and Paris are great.

Kristine,
Assuming this is your first trip to London and Paris I don't feel you can do justice to either city with only three days devoted to them. (Frankly don't think two weeks in either city is enough!) You might consider this:
5 days each in London and Paris; three days in Brugges (easily accessible by train from Brussels) with perhaps one of those three spent touring Ghent.

While I can't recommend specific stops, you may find it best to choose a smaller town/city to stay in between the huge (and sometimes overwhelming) cities of London and Paris. When my wife and I honeymooned in Spain, we spend the first few days in Barcelona, the last few in Madrid and the few in between on the quiet island of Menorca. It was a great relief from the bustling city of Barcelona and afforded us the chance to relax and regroup before we took on Madrid (and for the ringing in our ears to stop).

Okay, so I'm pretty partial, but...the county of Kent in the SouthEast of England is beautiful! You can visit Christchurch Cathedral in Canterbury, Dover Castle (and see the White Cliffs) or one of the many smaller, out of the way towns along the train route from Dover to London. One of my favourite places of all time is Rochester on Medway. It is small, quiet, charming, good food and shopping, and a Norman Castle and Cathedral thrown in for good measure. Wherever you go, have a blast!

Kristine, I agree with Bruges and Ghent, Belgium. We spent about 10 days in Belgium and these were the most charming and romantic "towns". We stayed at a B&B for one night in Bruges and had an absolutley wonderful, magical time. It was like a fairytale! We would go back in a minute, and stay longer! Brugge is ancient, beautiful, and romantic. Also, if you like to shop there is Belgian lace! Another suggestion that you might not have time for is a train to the Netherlands. We didn't care for Amsterdam, except for the great museums! We spent 2 nights in Delft, on the main town square. The food was very good, there was no language problem. It's small and personal, and full of history. Vermeer is buried in a Church in the town square. We walked to the flower market, and took a boat trip down the canal. We liked the Netherlands so much that we'd like to retire there someday!
Good luck, and happy traveling. Carolyn
