The one exception is of course Nafplio which is an excellent base for day trips to nearby ancient sites.

Exactly Stanbr, sorry to have omitted that. You can easily spend 1+ days just exploring Old Town ... Then another Day do Mycenae, stop at Tiryns, and go up the back way of Palamidi (rather than climb the 999 steps!). Another day you could check out Tolo and Asine (another ruin!! AND a beach!) and also Epidaurus. Day-tour busses in summer do Mycenae & Epidaurus in 1 day, but it can be a long day for DIY ... and is also difficult if the ancient sites go into winter hours during your trip, closing at 3 pm.

From your itinerary it appears that going over Corinth Canal will be at end of trip. So it might work for your last day to drive over to Epidaurus, (the theatre is the main thing there, don't feel guilty if you don't spend hours on the ruins area) .. then take the coast road up to the Corinth Canal; at Isthmia (before you get on the big "interstate" highway) you can walk out on the Old Road Bridge to see the canal -- so deep!! so Skinny!!

We've spent around five weeks in the Peloponnese over the past nine years and still haven't seen probably half of what there is to see!

Some favorite sites that I didn't see mentioned above.

Nemea. Amazing sight. Perhaps the most organized and coherent "ancient sight" museum we've seen in the Peloponnese. Not that the museums at Mycenae, Corinth, Olympia, etc. aren't excellent - but the Nemea museum redefines user-friendly. You can do this as a daytrip from Napflio. It's fun to drop in an sample wine at the many family-run wineries on the outskirts of Nemea.

Ancient Messene. Daytrip it from Kalamata. Incredibly well preserved ancient sight in a beautiful setting. One of our favorites.

Especially in the area around Napflio, look for the brown archaeology sight signs and venture off to see whatever they're pointing out. Memorable "finds" for us include a super well preserved Mycenaean bridge with corbeled arch intact, tholos tombs, cyclopean-architecture walls, and some way off the beaten path sights (Orchemenos and Titani - Orchemenos in particular was very impressive and we were the only souls there over the span of several hours!).

Another nice sight easily done from Nafplio is the ancient Heraion of Argos.

I'll second what TexasAggie wrote about Ancient Messene! In that huge ancient site there were only about a half-dozen other visitors that afternoon. I actually had to wait for someone to walk by for perspective before taking photos of the stadium!
