18 hours to go....
And we'll be on our way to London and Italy. Have I packed everything? Do I have all the proper paperwork? Did I remember everything the kids will need while we're gone? Will I ever get any sleep tonight, since I haven't the last two? What if the kids need me when I am soooooo far away? What if our plane crashes?
8 months of this going on in my head, more the last two days. What I really need is to be sitting in my B.A. seat with a cocktail in my hand!
TICK TOCK TICK TOCK..... I can't wait!

Sad to day, as slow as the clock ticks before the trip, it ticks very quickly while you are on the trip..so Savor every moment!!
If you forgot something, you can buy it there.
You have your itinerary & passports & tickets, you are good to go.
The kids will be fine even if you forgot something.
Eventually you will sleep.
The wonderful thing about kids is that they don't need you when you are sooo far away, they are having fun too
The plane will not crash.

You sound so overstressed that you may find it helpful to take some sleep medication with you. It will help you adjust to the clock in Europe, as you may find you are staring wide awake at the ceiling (worrying about kids, etc.) when you ought to be dead asleep on day two or three of your trip. Relax and enjoy the trip. You've planned for it and you deserve it!

Hi nbbrown, this is all part of travelling to Europe, especially for the first time.
Yes, if you were organized the paperwork is fine. If you forgot something regarding your children whoever is watching over them while you are gone will work it out.
Your children will do fine while you are away. Your feeelings will probably be hurt how well they do. But it will make you proud of them also.
Your plane will not crash dear one. Travelling by auto is so much more dangerous and we do that every day.
What you need to do is just know that within 15 hours you will be on the BA plane. Do enjoy a cocktail, enjoy your trip, and enjoy every exciting moment you have from here on in. Wishes to you for a beautiful trip.

Thanks everyone. I actually calm down once I'm in the air and there is nothing else I can do!
Last summer my 7 year old daughter had an appendicitis that came on so quickly, and I remember how scared she was and wouldn't let me leave her side. So that stays in the back of my mind. But I do know that they will survive without us! I guess the saying is true... no one can take care of your children as well as you do!
Oddly enough, I worry about something happening to the kids. My husband worries about something happening to us, and leaving the kids orphans. That is his biggest fear.
But I wouldn't change my plans for anything! Like I said, I just need to be in the air so I can relax!
Thanks again!

Well then you can worry about me because I will be moving this summer and that will include driving across the US...which is more dangerous than flying
You will be fine. I used to do this every time we left our children at home..call them when you arrive , it helps. Then have fun.
