Trust me, I will not try to do everything and will not feel rushed. Well, maybe a little the first 4 nights......but will not push it. In Venice we really have no plans, but to walk around the city. No tours. In Rome I will go to the Vatican, 2 hour tour, Colosseum only the exterior, and walk around near Piazza Novanna, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Compo de fioro (sp) Treve fountain....wine and food. Our hotel is in a good location

After that we have 10 nights in three locations ending in Bellagio. We have 4 nights Positano, 4 nights Tuscany, with a car and 2 nights in Bellagio.....the third day in Bellagio we will take a mid afternoon train to Milan, stay at Hotel Berna, have a nice dinner and drinks. Next morning we will be able to walk to the train.....off to the airport! I do not care about seeing everything, standing on lines. Italy is beautiful, whatever we see is great!

Do you really not want to see the interior of St Peter's? it would seem a shame to miss it since you are going to be so close. Even better, go up the Dome - there is a great view from the top plus the view you get of the roofs and the mosaics on the inside of cupola is very interesting.

Given that all the other sights are just going to be seen from the outside, you ought to be able to fit that in after [or before] the Vatican tour.

BTW, it's the campo dei fiori [meaning the field of flowers] and the Trevi fountain.

With the 2 hour tour, you are free to enter St Peter's on your own. There is a one hour tour as well. Thank you for your suggestions....sounds good.

Hi Mels, I did a similar 2 week trip, starting in Venice and driving our way down to Positano, stopping in Lake Como, Florence, San Gemignano,Rome, Positano. I was thrilled with my itinerary, but everyone on here blasted it,just like yours.I was insulted, after all my planning, but, they turned out to be right. We really didn't have enough time to relax and enjoy. Just as we were getting acclimated, we had to leave. Last year we went back to many of the places, but no less than 4 days in each place, even places we'd been before. It was one of my favorite trips. For the first time, I loved Rome, just wandering, stopping at will. This year, I'm taking my daughter- 5 nights Rome, 3 Tuscany,3 Florence,5
Venice.

Thanks, I do agree that the first 4 nights will be a little rushed. After that I am fine with 4 nights in Positano, 4 nights in Tuscany and then 2 or 3 in Belligio. We are waiting to see if we can get the last night at the hotel in Belligo....it is booked right now. If not I booked Hotel Berna in Milan, my husband would rather be in Milan the night before our flight. Our plan was to stay in Belligio until mid afternoon and take the train to Milan ( if the room doesn't open up ).

When in Rome, we are not going to push to see everything I don't even want to......and every day by 4pm will be dedicated to wine and relaxation. Evenings to be spend the same way....more wine and food. We really only planned 2 nights in both Venice and Rome because that is how long we want to be there. Trains maybe hectic but we are used to that, and we have a private car service leaving Positano as well as our own car from Naples to Tuscany. We do not leave until September so it will be some time before I have a report on the trip.
