Dear Jill;

Spain is very interesting and lovely, with diverse regions to explore and the people are great. I would recommend staying in Spain for the rest of your trip. You can explore the vicinity of Madrid, or go to one of the coastal areas, or the mountains. It will not be quite as crowded as say, Italy, for instance, but just as interesting. I would recommend seeing Toledo, Granada and the Costa del Sol in additional to Madrid and it's environs.

I agree that there is enough of interest in Spain to fill your additional free week. But I can relate to the desire to add some variety and see one other country.

Surprisingly, you can get to Rome faster and cheaper - - www.virginexpress.com - - than you can to Paris or other "main" destinations in Europe.

And all roads lead "from" Rome, just as they do, "to" it. Rome for 2 or 3 days, 1 or 2 to Florence, and the balance to Naples/Sorrento/Amalfi - - this could be a dream week.

Stay in Spain wonderful.. you could go Barcelona, Seville, Costa de Sole or do the countryside as we did last May. Leon, Avila,Santiago de Compostela,Segovia,Benavente. We also did Portugal couldn't recommended was not at all impressed. We flew into Madrid and rented auto and toured North-
west. Can highly recommend staying at Paradores. Spain is a beauitful and clean country with friendly people, but don't expect great food like in Italy.

Hi Jull, I was in Spain in Sept and you can definitly fill your week in Spain. If you want varity, you could also do a day tour from Algecera to Morroci and visit the big Rock(Gibralter) in a Half day. The Alhambra in Granada is certainly worth a visit as is Cordoba. I agree with a prior posting that Madrid is just a large city but you can do day trips to Avilla and Segovia and another to Toledo.
Have a great time.

Hi again Jill. I havn't any experiance in the resort areas, but from reading prior posts there are quite a few. The warmest ones would be on the Medeterian in the south (Costa del Sol). You should be able to find quite a number doing a web search. Hope this helps (not much I know). Have a great trip.

I guess it could be out of your mind but I think it would be great to take a flight from Madrid to Lanzarote or Tenerife ( Canary Islands ) to enjoy beach, relax and beauty. Another good option would be taking a flight to Jerez ( Horse fair ), good trips from that area. Marbella, Mallorca, Menorca or Barcelona are also interesting trips.

Looking for pampering? Head to Marbella! It's the Beverly Hills of Spain. My parents and I stayed at the luxurious Coral Beach Resort. There are a few other resorts which cater to your ever need like the Marbella Club and another one which is between the Coral Beach and Marbella club -- I can't remeber the name, but I believe it is recommended by Fodors. From Marbella you can make a day trip to Ronda, the Rock of Gibraltar, Puerta Banus, or cut your stay short and head to Nerja for a few days. I lived in Spain for five months last spring and I know the weather in May should be great for lounging on the beach. E-mail me with any questions.
