1 or 2 days' trip from Budapest to Vienna
Hi,
We're planning a 6 days stay in Budapest in October and would like to take a 1 or 2 days trip / excursion to Vienna. Suppose that a guided tour would be more suitable due to a lack of time.
If you tried a guided tour from Budapest or got there by bus/train (?) and took one in Vienna - would appreciate your comments.
Thanks,
Anna

My wife and I stayed in Budapest for a few days about ten years ago, and then travelled to Vienna by train. We didn't take a guided tour because most of the attractions we wanted to see in Vienna were in or close to The Ring and were easy to find. Also, the art in the Museum of Fine Arts and the Belvedere palaces is exceptionally good, and we didn't want to be hurried by a tour guide.

Bupapest to Vienna is an easy trip by train in about 3 hours.
You can buy inexpensive tickets in Budapest.
Frequent service and no need to join a tour.
austian rail website is
www.oebb.at
I agree with the above information that Vienna is an easy city for tourists.
Most tours hurry through places or even have you pass by them without entering in some instances. Less costly to do it on your own and see the things that most interest you.
Many of the major sights offer audio guides in english that guide you.
Examples are Schonbrunn Palace
Hofburg Palace
Arranging your schedule is not hard using the Vieena tour guide at www.wien.info
This will provide you with good tips , maps, hotel advice, city transit info and much more.
If you find a hotel in the city center , many sights are within quick walking distance

I really recommend spending at least one overnight in Vienna. The train ride is 3 hours each way, so to do a day trip, you'll be spending 6 hours out of a 12-hr day on the train.
Once you arrive in Vienna, you can take a hop-on hop-off bus if you want to get a good overview of the city.
