Why do relocation cruises appear to be cheaper?

In looking at a lot of cruises online, it appears that when ships are repositioning, the cruises are cheaper. Why is that? Is it the weather? Does service drop off?

Several reasons. First, they are usually 10,11 days or longer which eliminates a lot of people. Second, the airfare is usually outrageous because of the two one-ways. And third, generally a slew of sea days and few port days.

Having just come off a a ship that left from England to here I want to absolutely agree.. Unless your have frequent flyer the air fare is almost the price of the cruise.. We were only at sea 7 days, it's for those of us who love days at sea.. One repositoning went from Miami to L.A. and we only had 4 ports in 14 days. By the last day I wanted off the ship and wanted to be home...lol.. but it was fun..and will definetely do it again and again..

Not sure why it is cheaper but disagree with others comments. We are taking a spring repositioning cruise on HAL from FL to San Diego, CA. 17 days with 10 ports included, plus day spent cruising through Panama Canal. Price was really reasonable (extra for airfare from West Coast was about $400).
