Way to go Bob !
Bob Dickinson, Pres. Carnival cruise line appeared on the BBC last night in a programme titled " Back to the floor". He spent a week on the Imagination (?) as a crew member. Duties included cabin steward, dining room steward and pool side bar steward. He looked knackered at the end of it but learnt what it is like on the other side. If it shows in the States try and catch it, if you know Bob you'll be able to rib him about it.
I don't feel so sorry for my cabin steward anymore they were getting $4000 per month tips and they deserve every cent of it !
Before everyone jumps in to complain about the $4,000 tips .....

First, their earned income is poverty level (paid by the line). It covers their living expenses (they have to pay for laundry, sundries and housekeeping).

Second, they work only 9 months.

Third, they work seven days a week, 16 hour days.

To calculate: $36,000 ... 271 days ... $132.84 per day .... $8.30 per hour.

Paul

I do wish that all of the Paul-bashing would stop right now!!!! Regardless of any one's "personal" opinion, Paul DOES have knowledge and DOES make a great contribution to this board! Also, general name-calling and abrasive language needs to stop as well.

Please, we need to be kind to one another, especially now. We all want peace in our lives, and the way to make that happen is to start from within.
I have no problems with the cabin steward making $4,000 a month. Someone said that they work 16 hours a day - it appears that they are always working - I wondered when they slept! It seems to me that they work longer than that. I see them late at night and also very early in the morning.

They also work 7 days a week and are away from their families for months at a time.

They do this to support their families back home.

Besides - their service is always top notch!
