viking river cruise

We are booked on the Viking Sky from Basel to Antwerp on May 31. Anyone out there who is going on this cruise or has already taken this particular one?

We're booked on a prior cruise from Antwerp to Basel! Depart Antwerp May 20! Would also like to hear from anyone on the same ship or those that have made this trip before.

My sister and I are booked on the Avalon Tapestry - a new river boat this June - traveling from Amsterdam to Basel, sixteen days on the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. I believe the first trip is scheduled for April 30. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Accomodations, etc. The season for riverboat cruising might not have started this early in the year. Most of the riverboat cruise comments are from last year and Christmas. Thank you for your help

I just got back from a journey on the Viking Sun from Antwerp to Basel. The good news is that the crew really, really knock themselves out to make sure you have a good time. Polite, pleasant, accommodating, efficient. The cabin was very comfortable. I didn't feel claustrophic at all. I found the food excellent and abundant, although some members of the cruise complained about portion sizes. (I do not think there is a way to win at this game: people have food issues and they sure play themselves out in groups!) At 51, I was probably close to the youngest person in the group, and at some times, that wasn't easy. It was not an energetic crowd, people seemed really undone by minor exertion, and I felt impatient at times, like get over yourselves, you are in PARADISE. But people choose river cruises for the ease and comfort quotient, to be coddled a bit. The bad news? I don't think my husband will ever want to travel another way. He was happy as a clam.

Thanks Preciousbane! We leave tomorrow for our Viking Cruise Antwerp to Basel and your posting has our excitement quotient at max. Wonder if we'll be "undone" by exertion? I sure hope not.
Thanks for the report.

Hi,

I have a group of clients, retired university professors, who really enjoy Viking River Cruises. They like the included shore excursions, find the tour guides to be knowledgeable, friendly, love the smaller ship and gourmet meals. They've done many of the itineraries, but their favorite was the Christmas markets. It is a great way to see Europe without having to drive, worry about where to stay and eat. It's great.

There is a reason that Viking wins so many awards.....

Best Regards,
Julia
