Vietnam/Thailand Cruise
We will be taking a cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong. Which shore excursions should not be missed in Bangkok and Vietnam?

Also what shots or pills are absolutely required (not merely suggested) when stopping for port calls (as opposed to staying in those places for extended stays)?

I don't know about the shore excursions, but you can visit the web site for the CDC to find out about immunizations: http://www.cdc.gov/
Click on "Traveler's Health" for all the information you need. Also, your local Health Department will be able to tell you what immunizations are required.
Sandy; Thanks for cdc website. I actually called the county helath department. They referred me to a private company that tells you you need everything - because they charge to give all the shots! From the website, I realize that many of the shots are needed only if you stay a long time in remote places where you drink the water and eat the food. That will not be the case for us at all.

Hi David,

Ho Chi Minh City is a steamy metropolis of 6 million. Watch for pickpockets. I would say a visit to Chinatown to see its beautiful pagodas. The Historical Museum if this is your thing, is outstanding. The Cu Chi tunnels are both unique and fascinating.

In Bangkok be sure to visit the temples and when there, do not miss the Golden Buddha, the Reclining Buddha and the Emerald Buddha. Since many of Bangkok's magnificent temples lie along the banks of the Chao Phraya see if a boat ride is offered as a tour or grab one on your own. The flower market is exceptional.

Paul

Hi David,

I do not know how much time you have but Northern Cambodia is a plane ride from Ho Chi Minh. Angkor Wat's ruins are certainly impressive and mysterious. Sort of like an Indiana Jones movie set. I believe it is one of the wonders of the world. Especially the Khmer ruins. Hopefully you can spend a couple of days in the area and visit Angkor Thom which, I believe, is more spectacular than Angkor Wat.

So much to see and so little time. This is why I visited twice, once on a cruise and once land-based.

Tidbit .... plan to miss the floating market in Bangkok since you will see mostly tourists in boats.

Paul
