xxx - go to biddingfortravel.com and look at the comments for San Juan. You'll see the number of people who have booked the Wyndham Condado Plaza for $65-75. Follow the steps and you'll get that rate. If you're still unsure of what to do, repost here and I'll give you instructions.

Granted a dot.com will have a very attractive price for a hotel but a travel agent may have one next door that is just as elegant for the same price. Just don't expect a travel agent to just book a hotel for you if you are not a client. Five bucks commission is not a great sale. Best to book over the internet.

Paul

I have looked at the web site bidding for travel before. I would just be afraid I wouldn't get that hotel. The over all area looks rather small but still if I didn't get it and I got some dump I would not be happy. Remember this is for FEB. Most people got these rates in slow off season. Expedia has this hotel for $263.00 per night. I have been checking constantly.

xxx - here's the scoop. Priceline works in "areas" and "stars". Puerto Rico is divided into areas and the area you want is, of course, San Juan. Within that area you have different classes (stars) of hotels. The resort class is the highest and a two star (I believe) is the lowest. Under the first post of San Juan on biddingfortravel, it lists all the hotels by the different stars - for example, under resort I believe it is the Caribe Hilton and the Condado Plaza. Under four star is only one hotel and that the Wyndham Old San Juan. If you read how the posters got the $65 rate; you'll see that - first you select "resort" and offer $60 and you'll be rejected. Next, change to include four star and offer $65 - you'll initially get the Wyndham Old San Juan but will be "upgraded" to the Wyndham Condado Plaza. Don't ask why or how - it just works.

I was just there Peter.(biddingfortravel.com) I am seeing people are getting it for Feb. O.K. I am going to give it a try. I will let you know what happens. Thanks. I don't care how it works either but I would be very happy with even $80.00 per night. I need a place 2 nights post-cruise. We will not have a car so I want a place in San Juan for getting around easily.

I suppose he would show you how to book airfare on Orbitz and a cruise on Expedia as well? Does he/she charge you a commission to do these things for you?

These are all USER FRIENDLY WEBSITES designed to be used by the traveller. Who in their right mind would go to a travel agent to use them? No one!
