Uh Dave, I don't know where you are getting your information, but if you don't believe me TLC did a whole segment on cruise lines and their inadequate security.Carnival was considered to be the worst offender when it comes down to lack of security. I happen to agree with them (The Learning Channel). You may need to research your sources a little closer. The majority of crimes go unreported to the proper authorities (info from insurance claims)on these cruise ships. I'm not saying that these ships are festering with criminals. All I'm saying is that the crimes that do happen are covered up by Carnival and their ilk for obviouse PR reasons. Paul and his kind are hired by these cruise lines to help water down the complaints or plant red herrings to draw attention away from their inadequacies. It cheaper than addressing the problem head on like they should.
As far as the FBI, I am still puzzled by their involvement as well.
Please make an informed intelligent comment if you are going to make one.

excop,
I was making an informed comment. After having worked on three different cruise ships over the past 9 years I feel that I have a pretty good idea of what goes on. Yes, there are problems as there are everywhere. I have seen similar television pieces about the ships and about other places but I have actually lived on the ships so prefer my own knowledge. You appear to be an ex-cop so I wonder if you knew as much of what was going on in your area as the media? Can we also assume that there was never any crime on your watch? Did you announce to the public EVERY time a politician was questioned? Please don't tell me that no policeman or family member was let go when stopped for speeding. If so, we can call those cover-ups and bash the entire law enforcement community but I really don't think that would be fair - do you?

Dave I worked in IA for a time, and took great glee in busting unscrupulous officials. You may want to try another avenue of discussion.

Are you still working on ships? If so then I defer to your experience and would love to hear more of inside information. If you don't/didn't work in PR or security a lot of times companies will not let their own employees know what's going on for fear or reprisal in the future. You tell me.

I'm new to this site, so go easy on me. I've travelled on several Carnival Cruises and never had even the hint of a problem . . . no urine in the hallways, the staff was pretty courteous and helpful, the food was adequate at best . . . but that's my only gripe (besides Kathie Lee). I have no problem with automatic tipping either - it never even occurred to me to question the practice because it's standard procedure in so many travel locales, not just cruising.

Hey hey I don't like his comments any more than the rest of us, but don't lower yourself to that level. Shouting and foul language never wins an arguement it only gives your opposition an easy out.

Paul,

Just ignore those who have nothing constructive to add but only act like little brats and say they are speaking for all. They aren't. Personally I do not check these sites to hear immature wierdos rant and rave but rather to get input and thoughts of other travelers. I want both good and bad information so that I can make my own decisions. I have had 2 horrible experiences at Hilton hotels and will have a difficult time booking there again unless it is truly necessary however I know that my experiences aren't the norm and would never suggest that anyone else that goes there is ignorant. I guess that is just my way of pointing out that we need to hear from all who have some experience with cruises and most of us are intelligent enough to only use the information we need and not try to slam the opinions we disagree with. Continue to help those who ask and give your input for those of us who appreciate it. Have a great day!

I don't think Paul Therault is the person who needs to leave the website, but rude people. Paul seems to be an informed travel agent...far more informed than the travel agents I have dealt with in my own city. I weigh and judge his information just like anyone else's. But this rude bashing of someone who is just stating an opinion is totally uncalled for. By the way, most websites have the ability to trace rude posters irregardless of whether you leave your e-mail address or not, so I hope Fodors will follow through.

I am leaving for the Carnival Destiny in about 2 days. (doing a couple of pre-cruise days in Puerto Rico). This will be my first Carnival cruise. I will let you guys know my opinion when I get back.

Cathy all web sites can track the path of the poster. I don't agree with Paul but I do agree there are better ways to get your point across than the one poster shouting at us all.

Paul why don't you just answer the question and get this all over with.

Linda -- Thanks for expressing my own thoughts so well! And Paul -- I enjoy reading your obviously well-informed opinions. You sound much more knowledgable and certainly saner that your ranting detractors. Please keep posting and ignore the idiots. I am also taking a Carnival cruise soon and will post an unbiased opinion when I return.

Cruiser you probably will give an unbiased opinion because you don't get subsidized by Carnival.

They stopped being opinions when Paul crawled into bed with Carnival. Wake up this man works for Carnival beyond the normal auspices of a TA. In the old days of radio they called it Payola!
Apparently everyone wants me to say I get paid by Carnival for posting positively on this site no matter how far fetched that is.

So here it is, my final post.

I do not get paid by Carnival!

bye, bye,

Paul

Gee was that so hard? Maybe if you had done this in the first place you could have avoided a lot of aggravation for yourself and all of us.

Have fun on your next cruise. Hopefully it's a pleasant one.
