Tahiti cruise

Has anyone done the Regent Seven Seas Paul Gaugin cruise? If so how was it?

Try www.cruisecritic.com. There are tons of passenger reviews and a Regent board as well for direct questions. I recall seeing comments here about the PG and all are glowing.

Thank you jacketwatch. I have done that and what worries me a little is that there are very varied reviews of that ship. I will look at the message boards again.

I am aware of that as well. If you are paying that much you would expect more I think. Good luck. Larry

I've done it in 2006. It's was a nice way to see the islands, and see which ones you'd like to go back to on your next trip! The staff is bending over backwards to please you. The food is great and of course, abundant. It's a small ship compared to the Tahitian Princess for example, but I prefer it that way. It has a "private" feel, not that the big mega ships.

To illustrate this point the TP displaces 32K tons to 18K for the PG. The mega ships being built today are well over 100k tons.

Our Tahiti cruise on the Paul Gauguin was one of the top three cruises we have ever taken. If you have the money, book it! It has become more expensive, and I realize that is a consideration, but remember that liquor and gratuities are included and all of the watercraft like kayaks can be used free of charge.

Actually I recently received a brochure from Regent and they are offering many incentives now including 2 for 1 fares, free airfare and reduced rates with early bookings. I don't recall if this applies to FP or the PG but look into it. You might get lucky.

It looks like Princess is pulling out of Tahiti in December. That will leave only Regent and Star Clippers offering frequent cruises.

A friend just got back from a Star Flyer cruise and raved about it. Small ship and interesting off-ship excursions.

Look at their webite. They are going back with the Pacific Princess in Oct. 09. Its the same 10 day cruise as the TP used to do, more or less.

Yes, but Princess will be only offering cruises there for two months. So, for year round options, there's only Regent and Star Clippers.

Thats all they show for now but the Pacific Princess has no itinerary noted past that time. Lets see what developes. The TP pulled out of that route and Princess had nothing until the Pacific popped up there fairly recently. As for yr. round personally I would prefer only their winter (our summer mos.) which is when we were there two yrs. ago. Its drier and less warm then.

We did the PG last spring. Fantastic is all there is to say. Boat is wonderful, staff are incredible, they don't nickle and dime you at all, liquer, wine and the rest is included, tips are included, food is excellent...Not a bad thing to say about it. Every bit worth the extra money.
