Smoking Policy

Many cruise lines are cracking down on smoking. What cruise lines still allow smoking in the stateroom and/or the stateroom balcony?

I know the hazards of smoking and why one should quit. There is no reason to go into all that here. (I am not a smoker.) Just the facts please.

Princess.

If you want info on all the lines, you might want to check out www.cruisecritic.com -- lots of info there.

Princess allows smoking in certain lounges and generally in the casinos as well as your room and balcony. Never in theatres or dining rooms.

On Princess, our way to breakfast was through a casino. My husband wondered for some time, why do we see the same 2 women every morning sitting there even when the machines were turned off They came to smoke, going to Alaska it was too cold outside.

A friend has just returned from an NCL cruise and said they allowed smoking in the cabins but not in any public areas.

RCCL = no smoking in the cabins, but smoking on the balconies is allowed. There are other designated smoking areas throughout the ship.

Oceania = no smoking in the cabins OR on the balconies. Only 2 small places on the ship.

Carnival = smoking is allowed in the cabin (the official word) however for about the past year lots of "newbies" that did not know any better has been told no to smoking in the cabins *(only on the balcony). They also have designated smoking areas through out the ship. Also NOTE: CARNIVAL also has NO SMOKING in their new SPA cabins (no smoking on the SPA cabin balconies) on the Splendor (and the Dream and Magic when they come out)

Celebrity = no smoking in the cabins. (not sure about the balconies) Designated spots through out the ship.

Azamara = no smoking in the cabins or on the balconies. 2 places designated on the ship.

I have cruised on NCL,Princess, RCI,and Carnival. I have smoked on our balcony on all these lines, but not in cabin only because DH is not a smoker. There are also smoking areas on all ships.
