Most of the public areas areas on cruise ships are non smoking nowadays. The exception being the casino. There is even non-smoking nights at the Casino now.

For the Princess, as an example, only one lounge (usually the wheelhouse) plus the Churchill (a ciagr room) is smoking. The rest is smoke free. Dining room and buffet are always smoke free. My last trip, on the Island Princess, even the Wheelhouse is smoke free leaving Churchillas the only in door smoking area.

Smoking is permitted only on the top open deck (and promanade deck) on one side of the ship, normally the right (starboard side) near or at the rear of the ship. Smoking, of course, is allwoed in your own private balcony but not inside your cabin.

I hope this helps.

On Oceania, smoking is only permitted in one small section of the pool area and one section of one lounge. Even the casino is smoke free.

Princess by far keeps smoke out of the public areas much much better than RCCL or Carnival (yuck). If you are sensitive, you may find that helpful. I love RCCL, but have had really bad issues with smoke on nearly every ship. Voyager was one of the worst with the Sports Bar on the Promenade.

Celebrity is practically non-smoking now. All lounges are non-smoking, all restaurants, etc. You can smoke cigarettes only on one side of the ship outdoors oon certain decks - and cigars at the back of the ship on one deck on one side. No smoking on balconies anymore either. Not 100% sure about casino but I never saw or smelled it on my last 10-nighter.
