Small Vs. Large Cruise Line
We are thinking of a 2005 Greek Isles/Mediterranean Cruise and would like some recommendations as to choice between large cruise lines vs. smaller lines. Also, which is the better time to go, Spring or Summer.

My personal favorites have always been the smaller ships with much fewer passengers but I've been on larger ones as well. It is a personal choice. I also prefer to go in the Fall around late September to mid October. Less crowds and best weather. I would not consider going in summer. It is very hot and very crowded. The Med can sometimes have some rough seas anytime of year so I'd suggest a cabin on as low a deck as possible and as mid-ship as possible for the smoothest ride.

travelinsisters,
I would choose the itinerary and ports first and then the line, but that is just me. Although I have to say that we will not take a ship with more than 1900 passengers max - I don't want to be part of a city at sea. We love Windstar and Oceania, but Princess' smaller ships are ok, too. I think the smaller ships go into more interesting ports.

It depends on your budget. I will not go on a big ship, but if you mean small like 500 passengers or less, then it's quite a bit more expensive. I will not go in summer, especially in August. It's European vacation season and too crowded and hot.

Another vote for smaller ships...600 passengers max. Fall (1st choice) or Spring (2nd choice) is best time of year to travel on the Mediterranean. I agree that the smaller ships visit the best ports and offer the best overall experience.
