Sea Princess - The little details
Hi there - My wife and I will be cruising the Mexican Riviera on the Sea Princess Feb 23'02. We have a good grasp of the big picture but am wondering about some of the little details. Such as, does the casino slots accept U.S. coins? Can you order pizza by the slice? Can you or can't you take the pizza out? Are there first run movies available in your room? Is there any 'welcome aboard' wine in your stateroom upon arrival? Any other details you can think of would be appreciated - Gary

Gary, We sailed the Sea Princess in April 00. So things may have changed. I know for a fact that the teens took pizza to the staterooms in the evenings. The casino only accepted USD and the movies were a few months old. They kept running an old Baywatch movie that was filmed on one of their other ships. So you can make what you want of the movie selection. We enjoy Princess ships and think that they do as very good job. Service and food are wonderful. Have a great vacation.

We were on the Sea Princess last March and will be sailing her again in April (we've previously been on Carnival and NCL too). The movies seemed pretty recent (I didn't see anything close to a cheap Baywatch type film), shown once a day in the mid-afternoon in the Princess Show Lounge (it changes daily) a very comfortable place to spend some tmie if you've had too much sun (no, it doesn't cost extra, just go on in and watch the film). A more diverse movie schedule is shown in the staterooms during the week on the TV, although not continuously. The pizzaria is considered a sit-down eatery, not a "take out by the slice" place so you should plan to eat it there, and it's pretty decent although not a large selection. There is no problem taking food from the 24-hour Horizon Court for something to take back to the stateroom (although you can order complementary room service too)or to the pools. I believe welcome aboard wine is usually a practice by travel agents to "thank" their customers for the business. You can order items from the Princess Galley/Cellars and purchase wine, cheese platters, sweets, etc. and they will be delivered to your stateroom. You can find a selection of what is offered under the Princess website under "onboard experience." You will get lots of useful information (biased and unbiased, helpful and not-so-helpful!) at "cruisecritic.com" and/or "cruisemates.com" who will be thrilled to give you an ear-full! Bon Voyage!

We were on the Sea Princess in December. The casino slots accept U.S. coins. The pizza comes whole but it's a small one like the kind you get at California Pizza Kitchen. Don't know if you can take it out or not though. The movies played in the lounge were newer ones, but the ones in the cabins were older. I remember being disappointed with the in cabin movie selection. And yes they did play that awful Baywatch "Glacier Bay" one over and over (guess that's because it was filmed on the Sun Princess?). There isn't any wine in your cabin unless you ordered it yourself or your travel agent did. Hope this helps.

We were on Sun Princess in Nov. 99 and there was a bottle of wine in our stateroom from Princess when we arrived. I think it was part of the promotional package we booked at the time( reduced deposit, guaranteed seating time for dinner, shipboard credit, etc.). Our waiter even corked it for free.
