RCCL Vision of the Seas
How are the facilities and amenities on board the Vision of the Seas?? I heard even though the ship is relatively new, the company has not been maintaining it very well. Also, what is the deal with Royal Carribean's food?? People keep saying the food is "below average". Thanks for all replies.

My husband and I took an 11 day cruise to Hawaii last year on the Legend of the Seas. The ship was beautiful with wonderful service. It was our third RCCL cruise. The food was so horrible that I lost 2 lbs during the cruise. It was tasteless and bland. At one point our table said something to the head waiter and we were told that RCCL purposely kept it that way because of the large geriatric crowd that they serve. It was very disppointing because we love their ships. The food was underpar on our other 2 RCCL cruises but not as bad as the Legend of the Seas.

Debra, We have sailed twice on Vision, Panama canal and just got back from Alaska. First trip was good. The Vision was a beautiful ship. The staff was super, food was rather bland, but the bread was out of this world. The second cruies was a disappointment, RCCL needs to work on its guest relations. They assured us that the menu and shows changed with new itinerarys, they don't. I am sailing to Europe in Sept and I will be sailing with Princess. I will say this about the facilities, if we the guests want the ships to remain like new, then we need to be careful. Its truly a beautiful ship, and do check out the Viking Crown Lounge and Enchantment Lounge. Have a good time and make up your own mind. What ever you do have a good time
Sandy
Vast majority of reviews rate the ship as beautiful and well-maintained; the food good to excellent. That is what we found and was the consensus of every one of the considerable number of people we met during our 12-day cruise to Hawaii. You will find negative comments about any ship so you just have to keep things in perspective.

What you DO hear are comments that the food is not what it used to be and I can't comment on that. That may be so. But, has it also declined on other lines? I don't know that either. Maybe it has.

I did not expect the quality to be that which we experienced on the Century. But I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation, overall quality, and choices.

RCI is a mainstream mass-market line and I think that its Vision class ships rate right up there -- better in some areas -- with many ships in the more premium lines. Decor outstanding and beautifully understated; layout better than Celebrity, e.g.; great cabin size; affordable balconies; wonderful private public areas; the Solarium and its retractable roof -- beautiful.

Also, the Vision, more than any other RCI ship and more than most others, it is often-stated, offers the most generous quality and quantity of more classical/concert music series. Beautiful baby grands in the Schooner Bar, the Centrum, the theater, to name a few. There was every other type of music offered but I was very impressed with the daytime concert series and the many various artists who appeared throughout the ship at various times and in various venues.

You will enjoy the Vision. We find something -- usually lots -- to like about every ship. And if you do too, you will come back with wonderful memories.

We were on the VOS in May.

Only had 1 serving I did not like, a veggie lasagna, otherwise the food was good, not great, in small to decent size proportions, pretty much tasy and attractivly presented.

The dinning room and wait staff were very good, and the head waiter was at our table, every night.

For good views of the seas, ask for the upstairs level, near a window.

Their 'fast foods' such as pizza, burgers, hotdogs, french fries, and salads were quite good. The lunch and dinner buffett food was also good.

Only did one sit down breakfeast, great!

The ship was clean, did see a little wear and tear in our cabin and other areas, but generally, the public areas were spotless.

The theatre is very nice, great sightlines throughout, always clean.

The indoor pool was nice, kept clean, a little crowded.

Always found a spot in the Crown Lounge.

Elevator service had it's ups and downs (no pun) re: waits.

Room Service was fairly prompt.

They did occasionaly run out of tea, coffee, cups, or had the ice tea and juice machines out of service, at times.

I'd go on VOS again. Actually, I'd go on all but 1 ship we've sailed, again, that being RCI's Song of the Seas, but they sold that.
