Pre-Cruise Hotel
I just booked our honeymoon cruise for a 12 night Mediterranean on Celebrity leaving Oct 29th. We plan on arrive in Barecelona on the 28th and I want to book a hotel for that Saturday.
Through Celebrity the cheapest rate is $225/pp with transfers. $450 a night seem like an aweful lot to me. Just going through the hotels sight it was $191 total.
Besides the transfers to the ship what are the benefits of booking through Celebrity? Will we be pre-checked into the ship at the hotel? This way we can just go to the ship and right to our room. Any advice would be appreciated!

I seriously doubt if you will be pre-checked into the ship at the hotel. You will still have to go thru the boarding security measures and the requisite wait time. I would get the best rate I could and thats that. Have you looked into: www.avenidapalace.com. we stayed there for a few days post cruise. Its a nice hotel in an excellent location. Congratulations on your wedding.

Hi... we did a trans-atlantic through Celebrity (Century) last year and found a great hotel on The Ramblas..with continental breakfast and free internet etc.. etc. PLUS a great guide, Auriello.. I've had great feedback this week on him.. if would like information please write.. [email protected] If your going to Rome...we used a guide there too.. As a matter of fact looking into another trans-atlantic in the late fall of 2007 and it's going from Barcelona.... the minute I book it..the minute I book the hotel and Auriello...lol..

Geez, I need to proof read my posts before I hit reply
The reason I asked about being checked into the ship at the hotel was from a review I read while googling this very topic. Unfortunately I can't find the link but the reviewer specifically mentioned leaving their bags outside the hotel room and the ship staff transporting to the ship. All they needed to do was board the ship and their bags were waiting outside the room.
This would most likely be worth the extra cost to us.

I am dumfounded when I run across people who dont know what "google" is all about. You'de be surprised. The cruise lines negotiate the pre and pst package rates with the hotels usually for an entire year.So the rate is constant while the rate directly with the hotel will usually vary during the year, dictated by supply and demand. The features of the packages may vary from one cruise line to the other.A lot of people dont mind paying the cruise line rate because it's an "all in" rate.Sometimes the rates include transfers from the airport as well as transfers to the pier.Usually the tax is part of the deal too.I am in my TA's office frequently.I constantly hear "I dont have time to book anything myself". I saw on another board here a response not too long ago from one of our regulars herequot; Most travellers book on line"Totally not true.Maybe most Fodorites do, but not so universally. So, many of the cruisers who end up buying the cruise lines packages probably have done so out of ignorance.

I guess it would be best to actually call the cruise line. I'm definitely one who books all vacations online usually without talking to anyone.
If it was a few dollar difference I could understand. As of right now the Atrium Palace in Barcelona is $232 per person through Celebrity. I've never seen hotel rooms sold per person in my life.
Going directly to the site it's $191 per room. That's a VERY substanial price difference; $464 v. $191.

When you book through the cruise line the hotel price usually includes transfers from the Airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the pier. Also hotel tax, breakfast and gratituities are generally included. Make sure you factor in all costs.

The price per person on a pre-cruise for a hotel is outrageous. We were able to afford the hotel for two nights and have a taxi driver/guide pick us up at the airport, tour the next day and then take us the next day to the cruise ship. We were able to store all our luggage except for one piece in a luggage storage room at the hotel.BTW the hotel was filled with other Celebrity cruise passengers so we weren't the only ones.
