Port to Airport at Rome
After leaving the ship at Rome's port (Citavecchia), how long does it take to get to the Rome airport (FCO)? How early can you book a flight out on disembarkation day?

;Unless you take a taxi or shuttle, I"m not sure there's any direct route to the airport from the port. That trip might take as little as an hour to 90 minutes at the most. The taxi or private car would be the most expensive option, but it's most convenient.
If you want to take the train (much cheaper), then you have to go back into Rome and then get on the airport train (or take a bus transfer from the port itself). If you have to go into Rome, then the trip will take no less than 3 hours.
Most cruise lines offer bus tranportation to the airport, but if you are two people, it's probably just as cheap to take a taxi, and then you don't have to share. But I'd arrange a car in advance rather than just get a regular taxi or car at the port. That will ensure that you are taken care of.

Thanks to both of you. I was hoping to be able to get on a flight leaving at 10:30 am. We will get cruise line transportation to the airport provided in the cruise price. But maybe a private car would get us there faster and in time.

Usually hop the train from the port
for a couple of euros per person an hour or so
and get off at the Ostiense station
short 1euro bus ride to FCO airport flights leave early daily.
other xport options will cost you hundreds of euros.
ostia-antica.org great to visit if time around there.

We were on a cruise last fall which ended in Rome's port. We shared a pre-arranged driver with another couple on our cruise. Our flight left at 11 am and we met the driver at 7:30 am. The cost was 150 euros for 4 people.
I would suggest you go to cruisecritic.com, name of your ship then roll call. Perhaps a fellow passenger would be willing to share a ride. That's what we did.
