We will be stopping in Huatulco as a port stop. It seems to me its pretty quit there. Does anyone know where the ship stops and how far from there to town or any other recommendatons? Thank you. Larry

Several bays (seven, I believe) made what is called “Bahias de Huatulco” or Huatulco bays. Your cruise ship will dock at Bahia de Santa Cruz and it is within walking distance to “la Crucecita”… a picturesque little town with a lot of Mexican flavor.

If you are adventurous, I will recommend you “Sabor de Oaxaca”, a real Oaxacan restaurant where you can enjoy the typical local dish… mole negro.

Also, you can arrange a taxicab (look for one with air condition) and have them give you a tour of several of the bays; it is worth it.

Great idea, thank you. And yes I luv mole. There is a well known restaurant here in Chicago (Frontera Grill) owned by Rick Bayless who is a local guy enamored with Mex. food. He has been on several travel shows which feature him going into the small towns in Mex. for authentic ingredients, spices, etc. We had lunch there once and the yellow mole was delicious. I would luv to try a local meal. esp. if its spicy.

The ship indeed docks in Santa Cruz and the walkway off the ship is about 2-3 blocks long.

Santa Cruz has a nice marina that you can just walk about and browse some of the shops.

La Crucecita is very nearby, about a 1/2 mile or about 10- 12 blocks.

The taxi's are cheap, so if you decide to walk to La Crucecita, keep in mind that it could very easily be 100 + Degrees F!!!

Not exactly fun to be walking in that heat.!!!

In La Crucecita at the Bay there is a building facing the water with a wall that is semi-circular curve and a cross in this semicircular curve.

You cannot miss it because the semi-circular curved portion is a loud bright Pink color !!!

Take a picture here..it is a favourite spot.

Also in La Crucecita there is a lovey Town Square...you will not miss it as it is in the middle of town.

I will tell you where to get some of the best ice cream in Mexico.!!

1. Okay you are in the middle of the Square.

2. Now face the lovely Virgin de Guadelupe Church....it is right across the street.

3. From the Square (where you are standing)..cross the street.. you are now stand in front of the Church...( go inside it is lovely)

4. Okay you are on the sidewalk facing the Church...turn to your RIGHT.....walk about 2-3 blocks and you come to a lovely all white hotel right on the corner...on the same side of the street you are on.

5.It is right here on the corner that you see the ice cream place with outside tables.

Believe me in the 100 F heat the ice cream will be a welcome treat.

Huatulco has 9 Bays ..I can name them all for you ,but that is not needed.

There will be locals enticing you to take a boat( booze !!) cruise to see the 9 Bays..and you can spend some time on one of the beaches..mainly St.Augustine....

Don't waste your time doing this... you have seen enough water just getting here!!!!

Another thing ...keep in mind that ALL prices are increased when the cruise ship comes in.

When I was in Santa Cruz and La Crucecita,I was in one of the tourist shops and the ladies was quickly changes the prices.

Like for example..t-shirt were 3 for $15.00....was changed to $ 15.00 each !!.

I asked her why and she said with a grin, "Cruise ship coming ,cruise ship coming" and she pointed to the cruise ship that was still about a mile away !!!

Thank you Percy for that great info. Do you think it will be that warm in Feb. when we are there? I hope not though I do recall PDC being really hot in March. Yes prices go up when the ships are in but conversley last month in low season there were bargains to be had with our AOS port stops.

Yes!!

When I was there the last week in January and the first week of February, the lowest temperature was 94 F...there were days of 104 to 106 , in the nearby town of Santa Maria( which is another nice taxi ride to this town.

The resorts are in Tangolunda Bay( 20 minutes away by taxi).
Your ship docks two bays over in Sanat Cruz Bay...with only the Bay of Chahue between Santa Cruz and Tangolunda.

That is what I mean about the ice cream ...when I was having the ice cream ( in La Crucecita)I had to eat it faster than usual because at 104 F, it starts melting quickly.

We should all have this problem.)

While you are in Huatulco if I am home I will be shovelling snow .

This was one of my favorite ports. We took a taxi to La Crucecita for about $2. Went to the square and even went to mass at the church. It was gorgeous but very HOT. This was in April. Had lunch at a restaurant about 2-3 blocks from the church and it was great. Can't remember the name, but the beer was good and cold. I didn't think the prices were inflated. I bought 6 t-shirts for $30. Better quality cost more, but the people were very nice and helpful. The walk from the ship was very long and hot, but the beach at the end was beautiful. The stores at the end of the dock were very expensive.

Well 6 t-shirts for $30.00,is an excellent price.

Guess you hit some stores that did not raise prices so, good for you.

But when you get off the cruise ship you do not know that the price is inflated relative to what it was the day before.! ( But really everything( almost) is still pretty cheap

Can't blame the Mexicans for trying to get us Gringos to pay more !!!

I have been to all the major places in Mexico and Huatulco was the hottest by far.

OK I think heres the idea: Hire a
cab (A/C cab ) to La Crucecita and take the pic in front of the pink wall. Then cab it to the ice cream shop. Follow up that with ice cold beers, lightning shopping for those bargain t's then back to the ship and jump in the hot tub. Then more ice cold beers, Coronas with lime to be sure we get out vit. C. Si si!!

Our cab did not have ac. Maybe that is why it was only $2 & that was for 3 of us!!

You get off the cruise ship and walk about Santa Cruz.

You can take the cab to La Crucecita and walk around here. You do not need to take a cab to the ice cream place, because it is in the centre of town...almost a big kitty corner from the Town Square.

Yes! you follow up the ice cream with Coronas!

You will not need an air- conditioned taxi because it is kind of fun to roll all the windows down and have the air blowing through the car!

It is a short taxi ride to La Crucecita and then back to your ship.!

About that Pink Cross...you should be able to see it as you disembark the ship and start your walk toward the shore.

Yep your right again..hot tub and Coronas back at the ship...,I am already jealous
