Port of Los Angeles?

For those of you who have sailed from this port, where would you recommend staying the night before? We are flying in the day prior to the cruise and should land in the early afternoon. I was thinking one of the hotels in San Pedro, CA and using their shuttle to get to the port the next day. However, I don't know if there is anything around there to do.
Thanks!

If were me I'd fly directly into Long Beach airport and stay overnight in Long Beach. LB airport is smaller and much easier to fly in and out of than LAX plus Long Beach is closer to San Pedro anyway.Long Beach has much more to offer than San Pedro as for shops, restaurants, the aquarium, hotels, etc. Have a great cruise!

My only time doing it that way we stayed at the Hilton in San Pedro and they had a shuttle to the dock and we could leave our car at the hotel.

We stayed at the Sheraton in San Pedro, but we spent the day at the boardwalk area of Long Beach. I agree that flying into Long Beach is better than LAX,....but what isn't better than LAX?

We Stayed at the Crown Plaza San Pedro last November. Great room and they offered a free shuttle to the port. I agree there is more to do in Long Beach but here is another option and the one I used. Flew into Orange County and rented one-way from Enterprise. They have a drop off location with shuttle directly across the street from the cruise terminal.
This allows you to shop for the best fare and fly into any of the SoCal airports and save over the cost of shuttles, especially if you have several in your group. I suggest making reservations well in advance for debarkation.
