Norwegian Sea Info.
Hello. I would like to hear any information from recent passengers on the NCL Sea out of Houston. I am interested in reviews of the food, service, etc. Also would like suggestions on the best options for do-it-yourself travel at each of the ports. Best beaches, etc. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Check out the Web site www.cruiseopinion.com. Many reviews from past passengers. I am also interested in the do-it-yourself travel at the ports as I am going on this cruise next month. Any info out there?

My husband and I just returned from sailing on the Sea. We did a four day to Bahamas. I would not recommend this ship to you. It was not at all what I had heard cruise ships were like. The pool deck had tacky indoor - outdoor carpeting. The room we had was very very small and everything on the walls rattled while we were sailing. The food was not good at all. The drinks very expensive. Just not what I expected and it was our first cruise and our last. Just not worth the cost.

Isn't the Norweigian Sea now out of Florida? We did sail on it out of Houston last August. Are they bringing it back to Houston? Our only other cruises were on Carnival and I think that over-all, the food on Carnival is better. Except..breakfast in the dining room. On Carnival you get the same thing that is on their deck buffet but on NCL the breakfast menu was much better. And I remember one dish in particular on NCL that was as good as anything I've ever eaten..it was pasta with white clam sauce. And they had a very good on deck buffet one night. And I thought the entertainment was excellent. And a big plus..I won 3240 quarters on a slot machine ($810)!!! Once again, I think their are some things on every cruise line that you might like better than another.

Diane,
I just have to comment after reading your note. I won't disagree about anything you say but it needs some perspective. You said that cruising wasn't at all what you thought it would be. Maybe there is a very good reason. If you see great ads for a lovely new resort with all the amenities and a very high price do you expect to get the same thing if you book at an older Holiday Inn nearby that is less than half the price? Do you think that maybe the reason you were disappointed was that you chose one of the least expensive cruises going? Many times people say they will just sample cruising with a cheap and short cruise to see if they like it. Some do like them some don't but it still is not a fair comparison to other cruises. As in many things, you get what you paid for. I've enjoyed both kinds but know not to compare the two as apples to apples.

was on the Sea Nov.99, and had a friend that went in Jan.2000. We both were very dissapointed....This is the only ship I've ever been bored on....The food was so-so, and the crew was unenthused. Not rude, just blah. Was told that they rarely stopped at the Cancun port. True of mine and friends cruise but for different reasons. the cabins are the size of a shoebox and bathrooms smell. I'm not a negative person... but I was not impressed. I would invest a few dollars more and book a newer ship. Preferably on RCCL. I've had good luck with them. The Sea is showing signs of age and its not easy to find ones way around the ship. Most people on my cruise were as dissapointed as I was. Honduras was rainy and muddy because its undeveloped but beautiful and natives friendly. All in all it made me gunshy to ever cruise with NCCL again. I also thought it was leaving the port of Houston for shorter cruises out of Fla.

Just returned from the Norwegian Sea. This was our 8th cruise, first on Norwegian. We cruised Halifax, Nova Scotia, and 4 ports in New England. The ship was built in 1988 and some of the common areas have been refurbished - the Cabaret Lounge and other show lounges and bars, as well as the dining rooms. By reading the boards and information from various websites, we didn't have high expectations, however, we had a wonderful time on this cruise. Regarding the food - we didn't expect the food served on Celebrity, but it was as good as the food on Royal Caribbean, and better than Carnival. The food was good enough, and we especially enjoyed dining in Le Bistro one night ($10 per person extra). The crew was friendly in the dining room and in the hallways - smiling, pleasant and helpful. We knew going in that the rooms would be small - similar to an older Royal Caribbean ship we had been on, but with more storage space. We got a good deal through Cruise Value Center, similar to the price quoted on the internet. We loved the 5 ports of call, and met many nice passengers on board from all over the country. It was not as much of a party group like you might find on Caribbean cruises. Passengers were interested in sightseeing, not beaches. The entertainment was very good. My husband who is usually not a big fan of the shows, enjoyed 6 out of the 7 shows. All in all, we felt it was a very good value for the money, as did many other passengers we spoke with. It was a happy group of people on the 7/8/01 sailing of the Norwegian Sea.

I was on the 6-10 - 6-17 sailing from NY to NE/Canada. For what I paid, this was a good cruise. I was looking for a port intensive cruise and this was it.
The +s
The 5 ports, good entertainment, friendly and helpful staff, 2 'walk around the deck' decks
The -s
Food was fair-good, ship was somewhat worn
Faith

Sorry, but the Sea is old, worn out and dumpy. We also cruise alot and we were very disappointed in the ship. The food in the dining room was bland and the interior of the ship was tacky. Our cabin was so small, you could stretch out your arms and touch the walls on either side. We would never cruise this ship again.
