PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE WESTERDAM

We are considering a western caribbean cruise on this ship. What are your experiences on it? How old is this ship?

Thanks.

Try Cruisecritic.com for peoples' experiences; and look on the HAL website for all the particulars about the ship.

I cruised the Westerdam in the Caribbean about 8 years ago - back then it had just been refurbished, so it sounds about right if it has recently undergone another refurbishment.

It's a large ship, but I really loved it. I liked that there was a movie theater specifically dedicated for movies and that the library was of a good size. It's been a long time - but the movie theater and library are what I recall most clearly.

During the cruise I didn't really feel like I was overcrowded, as sometimes the large ships make you feel.

I agree that you should go to cruisecritic.com for more recent reviews.

Been there, done that! Loved it! We went on the Westerdam western caribbean in March 2005. We took our three children aged 9 12 and 14. We had separate cabins categories VC and SS. Both were good size but SS better. The cruise was sold out but we did not feel over crowded. Food was good with a large variety to choose from. I had lower last seating time but would take lower earlier next time. Never had to line up for anything (but that is all in the planning). Kids club went over well with each of my children (even the difficult 14 age group). I met people in Grand Cayman who were on Carnival. They hated it and were asking about the number of children on our boat. I understand this is a NEW ship. Everything was spotless. Excursions were not inexpensive therefore, you should choose carefully and research before your departure. I would rate my personal experience a 10 out of 10.

This Westerdam is a totally new ship in 2004. We cruised on it in March 2005 and loved it. We had a ss suite and it was great -- nice large balcony also. Food was good, but not super gourmet. Nice pool area. We enjoyed the service. Would definitely go on it again.
