Inside VS Balcony $$$
Enjoyed our last cruise on HAL and were thinking of another in the near future. The prices for inside cabins are very attractive for October/November/December sailings. Last cruise we had a balcony, which while we enjoyed, we obviously paid for. I think the balcony contributed to my not being "sea sick". Anyone have an opinion of inside accomodations?

I will always opt for a balcony on cruises 7 days or more or to itineraries that merit the expense (Alaska, the Med). To me, it enhances my enjoyment greatly as I use it often and sleep with the door open at night.
I would take an inside as my next choice. I like the fact that it is dark and I can sleep well. And to have a window is no big deal.
Balcony is first choice, inside is second.

Ask about promo rates for oceanview and balcony staterooms. Often, the cruise lines only advertise the lowest available rates as a "tease" for the inside staterooms, but also have great rates on outside staterooms, balcony staterooms, suites. Also, ask about "guarantee" rates - those are the lowest rates for a category type and often, the cruise lines upgrade these guests to the best available stateroom in that category.

We always use an agent, although in recent years it is often because I find a promo rate nearly as fast as she does.
We get the HAL ( and other lines) promos by email.
Many years ago she was able to upgrade us to a balcony on a two week trip. We have never gone without a balcony since. Because HAL has great sized cabins, this past January we were on The Oosterdam in one of the rear ( aft) balconies for an incredible deal! We love watching the wake--sailing out of ports. Above us ( two decks) we could often hear people on Lido wondering aloud how much the cabins were. It was embarrassing that we paid so little. Friends were two cabins down--and, although those above us could see onto the outer part of the veranda--there was room for 2 chaises and a table under the overhang. It was a perfect view--and room for sail away parties.
