Inside Passage on Royal Caribbean

My husband, 3 year old child and I just got back from our cruise to Alaska, Inside Passage, on the Royal Caribbean. I can help with any questions you have.

Did you go on a large or small ship? Which one? Did you view much wildlife?

Thanks for your reply.

We also just returned from this trip. Took the Rhapsody of the Seas, a very large ship. We did see three whales on the way up, a seal at the Hubbard Glacier, many, many bald eagles, and someone spotted a bear on the White Pass & Yukon RR trip out of Skagway. Quite a nice trip, very comfortable and clean ship. Excellent food and service in the dining room, but the Windjammer Cafe was so-so, although terrific views were had from there. I'd do this trip again. However, the part of the trip from Haines to the Hubbard Glacier was quite rough out in the open ocean with 20 foot swells.

We went on a large ship, Vision of the Seas which has 2,500 people on board and it was built in 1998. It was great. Some passengers spotted some whales and my husband saw a bear when we were on the White Pass train ride. We didn't go on any eagle excursions so we didn't see any eagles. The service on the ship was extraordinary, and the food in the dinnig room was good, the show were excellent as well and the scenary was great.

My hussband and I will be cruising, for the first time, on a sister ship, Vision of the Seas. I have questions about weather and dress. We'll be going mid-July, and we plan to take the White Pass train. What do I need to be warm? I'm planning on layers: short-sleeved top, sweater or sweatshirt, hooded sweatshirt, and spring jacket. Am I overdoing it?
Another question: Someone wrote about the open ocean being rough. Did you need something like Dramamine?
I, too, just returned very late Sunday from Inside Passage on Vision of the Seas. The weather temps during our week ranged from about 53 to 61, however, on days when it was 53 and breezy, it was quite chilly, however with 61 and sun it didn't feel too bad. I only wore shorts a few times while on the inside of the ship, but we wore jeans, sweatshirts and jackets in all the ports and during excursions. My recommendation would be to take a little of each. We rated the food fair on this trip both in the dining room and in the Windjammer Cafe, while the service was very good. One slight downfall was the disappearance of $50 from my purse left in our cabin during the "at sea" days, which I should have placed in the room safe. All our other cash and valuables were in the safe and untouched. Unfortunately, the one day we had rough weather, our cabin stewardess was ill and her "helper" did our room up and the day after when we arrived in port I noticed it missing. We encountered the same rough weather prior to entering the Hubbard Glacier cruising. I was nauseous the whole morning and into the afternoon. After that day, there were no other rough seas. E-mail me direct if you have other questions.
