How to avoid elderly New Yorkers on cruises
A lot of people complain about kids on cruises. I've reached the point where I avoid anyone over the age of 60 on board--especially the transplants from New York City who decide to move to Fort Lauderdale and Miami to retire. What a bunch of complaining nuisances! I've seen cruise staff go out of their way to avoid them.

Good answer, Paul!

Newboy avoid cruises that leave from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. They can practically walk to the ship from their condo!

Go to Europe or the Far East. Spend your money to actually SEE something that gives you a different perspective. Just my opinion . . .

After Sept.11th, you all should be ashamed of yourselves!
Someday you will all be old (or dead) and if you already have such a nasty attitude, I can't imagine what "complaining nuisances" you will all be in the future.
Try to remember that some of those transplanted New Yorkers lost loved ones in the WTC! Shame on you.

So you think that 60 years of age is old? I am an active 61 yr old ex New Yorker. I didn't go south , I went to Canada. I think that you are being extremely rude about my former schoolmates. Keep it up and by the time you reach our age, you will surely outdo us all

Just one thought Newboy Dense. As medicine and technology get better the older live longer. Be careful one of those cane toting buggers may just kick your @ss. They are now the largest growing demographic in the U.S. Guess what? They have the Money and they Vote! Be nice to them. Even a dogmatic person like me is smart enough to recognize the obvious.

Am I reading something behind this idiots post, that only seniors from NY and Florida be avoided.. there is else something vicious behind all of this. I am a senior..I cruise, I do land trips..do I complain..not usually..but I do hate people who get on cruises like you and drink yourself into oblivion. So, head to a Carnival as they say..stick to it.. Oh yes.. I hang around with younger people, I'm still young at heart.. Who knows..one day we might meet..I will probably find you as obnoxious as you seem.

To be fair to Newboy-I kind of know what you are getting at. Any of you out there been to the grocery store on senior citizen discount days? With a little luck, we'll all be there someday but it can still be a pain in the ---. Sorry, I don't have a solution, just wanted you to know I understand!!

Hey, do the same thing with any cranky adult that you do with a cranky child. Distract them! Retired people from anywhere have had long and often interesting lives, have met interesting people and have seen and done things we will never be able to. Talk to them, draw them out. Find the thing that makes them shine and you will have a lovely companion(usually-some people enjoy being grouchy, but most can be drawn out.)

Shelly

On our first cruise more than 15 years ago we were seated with some really elderly people. Try as we might we couldn't change tables, well, it turned out to be the oldest couple were the most interesting on the ship. He had a lovely voice and was always singing and crooning to his wife, this man was the hit of the ship. More than 20 years ago we were in Machu Picchu.. and I turned to a very elderly woman and asked her where her husband was...she pointed to the top of Machu Picchu..she said he climbed mountains as a hobby on weekends..I told her at the time that I wanted to be like her when I grew up and got older. Well, guys, I am older and young couples now tell us that they want to be like us when they get older and I laugh.. or the latest comment to Parrot Pop...."gee, for an elderly gentleman your certainly computer and digital camera savvy"... those were the exact words.. so watch out for us seniors.. we have alot to offer and stop moaning and growning about us, because sooner or later you'll be a senior too.

Hey, I am over 70 and can probably run faster, jump higher and lift heavier weights than you. You are certainly welcome to avoid me. I don't complain about anything, but live it up instead. It seems to me that you are the one who is doing the complaining.
