Hawaii cruise on NCL Pride of America

I read many comments regarding NCL which were not very positive. I have sailed NCL once a few years ago and was turned off by the lack of customer service so I decided to never sail NCL again, but because of others I find myself looking at NCL's Pride or just doing a 5 night land vacation on Oahu. I really don't want to spend almost $4000 and be disappointed on NCL. Has anyone sailed NCL hawaiian cruise, if so, would you share your experiences. Thanks

Actually for me Hawaii is a land vacation as there is so much to see and do. Several yrs. ago we spent 9 days on the BI and could have used a few more. As for NCL, well if it looks like a dog, acts like a dog and barks then its a dog. JM2C. Larry. Good luck with your decision.

It`s been a couple of years. The ship was very pretty, but the food was lousy! They didn`t have adequate help in the dining room so that was another problem. We had a good room steward but he was ready to quit, because of working conditions. We complained after we got back and got a generous money off coupon for a future cruise, but that didn`t even tempt us to go back again.

DO NOT DO IT! NCL is awful. The customer service was non-existent. We did the cruise the first week of August. The food was OK. Our room steward never showed his face. The shower leaked badly and they tried 3 times to fix it to no avail. Every day we either had enough wash cloths or towels for 4 people, never enough wash cloths or towels at the same time. The ATM was broke for 3 days and when they were told they said "well". The falsely advertised the submarine ride, they don't explain that they drop you off at a shopping plaza for 3 hours after the submarine ride. Before the excursion we fought with them and it was not until we showed it was false advertising, did they credit our account. The waiter staff was slow and did not resemble any of the staff that we have had with all of our previous cruises (9) with other companies. The room service was pitiful. We ordered room service 5 times (due to excursions) and not one time did we have everything that we ordered. Sometimes we did not have enough utensils, sometimes not the entire order and one time no napkins and no milk for cereal. They came 45 minutes early for a breakfast delivery while we were still in bed, and we got no apology. We will NEVER cruise with them again. They got us once, they won't get us again!!!

We took this cruise three years ago and were warned by our travel agent that don't expect too much in the way of service on this cruise. She was right. We have cruised several cruise lines over the years, including NCL (not NCL America which runs the Hawaiian cruises) and found they all had superior service to the Hawaiian NCL ship. In speaking to several crew members, all who were young, we discovered they were doing this a sort of a lark and had very little in the way of training. Just be prepared to put up with poor service and your trip will be OK.
