Has anyone heard about how the recent tragedy is affecting the cruise lines?

Since people fly to cruises it would seem that cruises are being affected. Also security may be an issue? We're considering cancelling our cruise and taking the loss since our hearts would not be in it. I'd feel guilty enjoying outselves at a time like this.
My heart aches at the very thought of the pain this event is causing in America and my prayers go out to the families that lost their loved ones.

If you back down on your cruise the enemy has won.. They have made you afraid.. Security will be extremely tight everywhere..I will be flying from Logan and I refuse to cancel and let them win..I look forward to the freedom..Please have a great time..Enjoy your life and do not live in fear.

Supposed to be leaving on Saturday 15th from San Juan but no flights to get me there due to the disaster. I live in another Caribbean island.! What to do????? I called Carnival and while the agent I spoke to was very understanding... apparently they have not YET made any arrangements. On the website for Royal Caribbean they seem to be making special arrangements for passengers to re-schedule their trip. Anyone has info.??
Hi Tillie,

Most cruise lines do not leave or return during the week.

Each line is working on a case-by-case bases.

Those that are returning at the present are being placed in hotels until the airports come back to normal.

As an example Disney is placing passengers in upscale hotels in Disneyworld.

Some are refunding money or switching passengers to other cruises.

All the cruise lines have beefed up security.

Paul
And what about the 2 people employed by CARNIVAL cruise lines that the Coast Guard removed this am--they had ties to previous hijackings--so much for security and employment background checks!

Hi all, I am a New Yorker and was originally planning to take the Carnival Destiny this Saturday... flying to Puerto Rico. Well I called my travel agent and Carnivals policy is that they are giving credit toward a future cruise, but the cruise is still going. We were still intending on going till we heard that at JFK they arrested more suspicious people. I am so angry that they will not refund our money. It just isnt right. First we fear for our lives and then companies like Carnival don't show any flexibility or compassion. I am wondering what other people are experiencing who booked a cruise this weekend., and also if you have any information. We have the Liberty Travel insurance but so far we dont know what that covers... travel agent is trying to call and the lines are busy. We will get our airfare back.
Take care
Heather

Carnival's policy is VERY generous when compared to Norwegian CL. My friend and I are scheduled to be on the 9/16 voyage of the NCL Sea out of NYC. NCL's final position? The Sea will leave from BOSTON!!! on the 17th!!!, no ship-board credit for the 1 night difference . . . AND NO VOUCHERS FOR FUTURE CRUISES. Period.

NCL sucks.

I take back my nasty comment about NCL.

Because of my departure point, they will let me apply the $$ to a future cruise. The rep. was really nice. Now I feel like a jerk.

Actually, NCL is giving everyone on the Sea a $100.00 per person shipboard credit for the cruise being shortened by 1 day. They are trying to get flights changed to arrive in Boston, if they are not able to they are providing transportation from NY to Boston.

Heather,
We are in a similar position with Carnival and I am VERY THANKFUL that they are issuing a credit for a future cruise! You know, they don't even have to do that. It is not the way we wanted things and I would love to not suffer any inconvenience but when I look at the news I know that we are really very lucky to have such a small interruption in our personal plans.
You might want to remember that all the cruise lines are taking on tremendous financial loses from this tragedy too. Even with giving credits instead of full refunds they will suffer too. I see no reason that they should bear the entire lose on our cruise. I think it is pretty petty and selfish to think that they should bear all the lose and that you should come out unscathed. Try to look at the whole picture and be thankful for the credit offer.

Sandy: I agree with you. Frankly getting all angry w/ a cruise line has just been a way to distract myself from the pain. There is so much pent up anger right now, and when I'm being rational I know these businesses are taking a large hit.
