Gift Ideas for Cruisers' cabin

My in-laws are going on a cruise the week before Christmas, and as their Christmas gift my husband and I wanted to get them something they would enjoy on the cruise. We have never cruised ourselves, and have no idea what they would want/need/nice to have.

A couple of ideas that we have bandied around are a gift excursion, a gift certificate to a restaurant at one of their ports of call, or one of the cruise lines (Royal Caribbean) Romance gift packages. If anyone has any ideas as to which would be best we would greatly appreciate it.

Just for reference, my in-laws are pretty simple, laid-back people who aren't into really exotic or adventurous things and like to cruise because it is an easy and convienent vacation.

A pair of binoculars would be nice, especially on cruises where they may see some wildlife. Or else a lightweight digital camera or a few disposable cameras depending on their tastes. Also, a good travel book on their destination may be appreciated.

Have you checked out RCCL's gift page?

Here's the url:

For my parents I usually buy them onboard credit to be used for anything from shore excursions to the ship's gift shops. Or I like to purchase flowers to be delivered to the room as gifts. Finally, RCCL sweatshirts are also a nice gift they can wear on the ship when they are sailing at night, they (like all pre purchased gifts) will be placed in their cabin before boarding and it's a nice surprise for them when they check in to their room.

Oh yes, the in room decorations are nice too, such as "bon voyage", eg.

fishingirl,

if your parents cruise often one gift that is very practical is a set of small hand held walkie-talkies. They can be purchased for about $25 (for a set of two) and are great when your partner is somewhere on the ship and you are trying to locate him/her. Motorola is a good brand and they can be purchased at Walmart or Target.

I think a couple bottles of wine would be nice. They can enjoy it there, or have it at dinner. If they don't drink wine, do an onboard credit for other purchases. I wouldn't choose an excursion for them- too risky.
