You know, you really have a way with words, and this is not a compliment. The 60+ folks here are giving you a lot of useful advice, the kind that will keep you from being a boorish tourist, so listen up. And do take a pair of pants, your dad might like to eat somewhere other than a buffet line.

I was just on Celebrity Summit, and it was hardly Vegas on the Sea, so you should be reasonably happy (although I have my doubts, given your attitude about cruising). The ship had more of a big-city, boutique hotel feel than a floating resort. It had a casino and shows, but there were other things to do if you weren't interested. As for not dressing up for dinner, there's always the buffet, but that would get old after a few days. In the main dining room, it's smart casual (think dockers if not a jacket and tie) on non-formal nights, and in the other restaurants, it's about the same. Normandie is formal, though. Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm in my 30s and not my 60s.

I was going to bring a pair of blacks pants, black shoes and a couple of dress shirts.

Travel4425, I guess you are not a rebel after all. You have become a conformist!

It is too bad that some had taken what was psoted totally out of context and left some negative remarks.

Go have a good time, enjoy the ship and all the destinations.

Nope, it's 'socal'. Sorry if it offends you that I take offense to snippy comments, but sometimes that's how it rolls.

on formal nights on my cruise just finished, i wore chinos and a nice shirt in the main dining room... it was fine... my wife wore a nice top and dressy slacks... 1/4 of the people had gowns/tuxes on/ 1/2 had a suit or jacket with no tie (men)/nice dress and 1/8 looked ratty.. no one cared..

it was a celebrity cruise.

Well the OP has left the building so to speak so there will not be any more comments from him at least under the name which he used to start this thread.

Welcome back ... amd you've added a 5 to your handle after the cruise ...

Did your dad had to dress up at all? even for the formal nights?
