Do I need cruise/travel insurance??

My fiance and are will be taking the Enchantment of the Seas in December. Our TA offered us travel insurance. Is it really needed? What does it generally cover?

YES,YES,YES! Just think how much money you would lose if one of you gets sick the night before the cruise leaves! You are leaving yourself wide open for trouble if you take a chance. Don't do it!

YES! Definitely. If you get sick out of the country - this will cover it along with air evacuate to a good hospital if something serious happens. Add missing the ship, losing luggage, delayed luggage, etc. .. .If the insurance is too expensive check out www.travelguard.com or www.accessamerica.com.

I didn't get insurance once and my mom had bypass surgery. Will never not go without insurance again.
I get the feeling that most of my customers get offended when I mention insurance. They think it is only a ploy to make additional commission.

Believe me it is not.

Always buy insurance. You ever know when you might need it.

Paul

In July, we were going to Alaska on Celebrity Galaxy. A week before we were to leave my father was admitted into the hospital for stomach problems. As the doctors were performing a minor surgery he had a heart attack. A week later he died. We had ICMS insurance which is also known as Ingle Insurance through our travel agents. Three months later and they have not paid us. A small clause in the policy says that if it is a pre-existing problem they won't pay. My father had congential heart problems for years and was under doctors care with controlled medication. For years this has not stopped us from going places nor my father. Obviously, you don't put your life on hold indefinately.I have sent them his death certificate along with the doctor sending the insurance a letter stating that he was under controlled medical care and that this was an unexpected death. Go figure for insurance. If anyone has any idea how I can get my money returned please e-mail me.

Hi Sarah,

As a travel agent, I always recommend travel insurance to my clients who are going on a cruise or a vacation. I've seen too many people lose their hard-earned money because of unforeseen circumstances. Check with your travel agent regarding which policy is the best for you. Most often, pre-existing conditions are not covered unless you purchase your policy within 7-10 days of the day you make your deposit. A good policy will cover trip cancellation/interruption, delays or missed connections, medical emergencies, and baggage loss or delay.
