class action lawsuit
My wife and I received a copy of legal papers(from Princess Cruises)regarding a (California) class action lawsuit against Princess Cruises for misrepresenting the price of their discounted cruises from 10-31-94 through 1998. Anyone have any information on this?

I got the same thing. Apparently, it stems from the "Port Charges" that we paid. As I understand it, Princess was not actually required to pay the charges they made to passengers with the result that they have to give money back in the form of vouchers. Seems ridiculous to me, since we paid in cash and should get the money back the same way. I never want to travel on Princess again, so I tossed the whole thing! Dick

MARK:
I recieved the letter too. My wife an I had good laugh over this litigation.
Although we had cruised with Princess 3 times during the indicated time frame we did not think a refund of $22.00 in vouchers was worth the effort. I can't believe the people who started this class action were serious.
THE BIG WINNERS IN THIS ONE WILL BE THE ATTORNEYS. THE BIG LOSER WILL BE PRINCESS FOR ALL THE BAD PRESS.
I got a letter today on a similar deal, only this was on Royal Caribbean not Princess. These vouchers range from $8-30 dependent on date of cruise and length of cruise.

Yes the lawyers will get rich, but obviously many people [including Consumer Reports] feel that the concept of "port charges" is deceptive, since the cost per passenger far exceeds what the actual charges are. Besides, this should be the cost of doing business and rolled into the fare - cruises are expensive enough, particularly when you travel solo.

Don't be surprised if you see more of these if you cruise frequently.

I also received papers from a suit against RCCL. Let's face it guys, Princess, RCCL etc. have been cheating and/or misleading the public but I agree, it also won't stop me from cruising. Just because it's a few dollars per cruise passenger doesn't mean it isn't deceptive. (Think of what a few dollars per cruise passenger means to the cruise lines had they not been caught.) I agree with Dick, I just tossed the whole thing.
