Civitavecchia to Rome transfer

I understand Princess Cruise Lines will only transfer you from their port at Civitavecchia to Rome if you are staying at one of their $700/night hotels. I am looking for a cheaper hotel! Any ideas on how to find alternate transportation into Rome?

You can purchase same day transfers without booking Princess hotel. But it'll be port to airport tranfer, not to hotel. So you may be better off just with taxi which should be plentiful.

When we arrived in Civitavecchia we bargained with a taxi driver on the pier. For 100E he took the 2 of us and our 4 bags to our hotel in central Rome. When we arrived the meter read 118E but he only charged us the 100E agreed upon (plus tip of course). It was well worth it to go directly to our hotel and not have to drag luggage from bus or train to the hotel.

We just returned and used a wonderful English speaking driver named Stefano Tirelli. He was right on time and actually included a lot of information and history while driving. Besides doing transfer, he also does guided tours.
His email address is: [email protected]
He has a nice, spacious, air-conditioned Mercedes. The price for the transfer was $110 Euros (as I recall). He will pick you up and deliver you to your hotel in Rome.

BTW (not that you asked) for a really good, reasonably priced meal in Rome try "Otello alla Concordia" @ Via della Croce #1 (near the Spanish Steps). It was so good and reasonably priced that we ate there twice.

I've booked transfers for clients from their hotel to the port on Travel Bound, but they work only through travel agents. Another options is to take a train from Termini to Civitavecchia. I have clients who just did that a month ago.

Taking a Princess Cruise May 7, 06. What is the cheapest way to get four of us from the Hilton Rome (Fiumicino) Airport (Air France) to the port at Civitavecchia. If it helps we do have a free shuttle into Rome from the Hilton hotel? We will need to return about 12 days later.

I stayed at the most amazing place, Fontana del Papa (www.cookitaly.it, www.fontanadelpapa.com). They are a wonderful bed and breakfast located just 20 minutes from the port and they will pick you up. You can take cooking lessons or just enjoy the beautiful family life in a 16th century old farm house located in the mountains of Tolfa. We had the best experience ever. We also took the train from Civitavecchia to Rome which was easy and not expensive. It took like a half hour to get to the Vatican....eve

We went into Rome for two nights last June before our Celebrity cruise. There were four of us and ALL of our luggage. We used Limoservicerome for all of transportation. They met us at the airport and took us to our downtown hotel (the Del Senato which was beyond fabulous), took us to the ship two days later, and picked us up and took us back to the airport when our cruise was sadly over. They were fantastic. Always puctual, friendly and the price was terrific. Check them out at: limoservicerome.com Good luck and have fun!!

The train station is a 3 minute taxi ride, 10 minute walk from the pier. The train runs very frequently. The trip is just over an hour and less than 10 Euros.

Hello Petlover--I read your referral about Stefano Tirrelli and emailed him--He responded back and we are confirming with him from Civitavecchia to Airport Hilton Fiumicino after our Celebrity Cruise. My only concern is that he did not provide us with any phone contact or formal reservation other than "we will be there to pick you up". Is that how it was for you? Please respond when you can at [email protected]--THANKS

On the cheap take the train 10e about an hour, then taxi to your hotel want
direct delivery hire driver should run 100-120 depending on driver and where in Rome your going.

We just came back from a Med cruise in October and spent 2 days in Rome to sightsee. We did one day pre-cruise and one day post-cruise. I made all our arrangements for hotels, private transfers, limo drivers, etc. It is very easy to do this. There is lots of information on these boards.

I would suggest that you go to www. cruisecritic.com and you will find lots of helpful information. Go to the boards section at the top of the page, click that open, then look for Princess cruise lines, then your ship and date of sailing. You will find others going on that same cruise and may be able to share a ride to and from the port. It is much less expensive doing it this way.

We shared a ride to the port w/ 2 other couples and the limo driver picked us up at our hotels and drove us to the port. It was E160.00 for all 6 of us so broke down to approx. E26.00 pp (not including a tip).

I would definitely book my own hotel also. You can do a post on that thread on the Cruise Critic board and ask others where they will be staying.

Hope this helps. I can also give you names of limo drivers, hotels, etc. that we stayed at.

Good luck. You will have a fantastic cruise.

Just make certain of the cost of transfers from Rome to Civitevecchia. Our hotel delivered us to our cruise liner for 130 Euro but we were charged after the cruise 236 Euro for the return journey to the airport by a Limo Service. I am still investigating this as the charge came automatically from my Credit Card which I had to commit when I made the original booking. My first mistake!! Our original quote was for 179 Euro. So be careful - it is probably cheaper to get a taxi.
