celebrity booking tip
Hi all,
I would like to share a tip with you all regarding booking on Celebrity.
Our travel agent told us that Celebrity (and another company, can't remember which one) do not offer discounts on their cruises. However, if the price of the cruise goes down after you book and before you sail, you will get the difference back.
Accordingly, in April 2007, we booked on the Celebrity Millenium sailing from Barcelona to Venice on June 30th. Towards the end of May, I saw that the price had gone down quite a bit and I spoke to my travel agent who in turn spoke to Celebrity and we got $600 back per couple. Since I am traveling with my parents and husband, we got $1200 back as a family.
Just wanted to share that with you.

Two comments about your post.
You must personally keep track of price decreases as nothing is automatic.
Often price reductions come via Happy Hour specials that are for new bookings only. Those price drops are not eligible for price protection.

Would this work if you are part of a group booking? A travel agency is arranging a trip this Jan. for any interested party who lives in our community. Their prices were already a bit lower than those online.

An OBC is not a given and even less of a possibility when booking in a group block.
As a TA, if I were to give a 300 OBC on a typical 7 nights cruise (1000pp lets say), not only would I make zero in commission, it would cost me to get your business.
