Cabins on QE2
We have booked a cruise on QE2 for 2001.
The cabin is a modest M1 grade and the number is 4116.I rang Cunard who said the cabin is 138 sq ft. This sounds very small to me as the lowest grade ones on Crystal are 200 sq ft.Has anyone sailed on QE2 in this grade? the cabin is on deck 4. We also sail on December 11th and I expect it could get rough. is it a steady ship? I would appreciate any information.

I just got off QE2 on July 5. It was my third trip on her. I have done all the other grades execpt M, but I have seen a few of those cabins. They are small, but quite nice. M1 is the best of the Mauretania catagory. They are best for people who don't spend a lot of time in their cabin, and who want a good value on the best (my opinion) ship in the world! I would give Mauritania (tourist-class) cabins a shot myself, but I don't like the idea of assigned dinner seatings. The other catagories (first class) have single seatings, which I like. I thinks you'll be just fine if you don't mind the points I brought up. The QE 2 is an expeirence like no other, and the service and accomidations are superb across the board. Your room is small, but it will be nicely appointed. After all, it is the QE2, you know!
Thanks for your advice Michael. the cabin is indeed small. I checked with Cunard and it is 138 sq ft. Compared to Crystal symphony where the cheapest "stateroom" is 200 sq ft it is tiny. We will just have to keep exploring the ship.We too do not really like two sittings for meals but we will ask for the second sitting which should give us more time to eat. The cruise is 28 days so we will have plenty of time to find out all about the QE2.

I am booked for the repositioning cruise of the QE2 departing Ft Lauderdale Oct 26, 2000. For economical reasons, I booked M class and requested and am booked into a "partial handicapped" room I look forward to my cruise and welcome even a "smallish" accommodation just for the experience of cruising on such an historic elegant vessel. Had it not been for a great offer from Air France frequent flyers' club, my dream of a transatlantic cruise probably would never come true as most of the prices for such cruises, esp. on the QE2 are out of my reach. Enjoy your cruise, Ann.

I agree with Michael about cabins if you don't want to spend time there - and why would you except to sleep? The ship has excellent public rooms, spacious outside deck areas and is vast. Re stability my worst trip on QE2 encountered a Very Rough sea which closed a rear bistro/dining area. This (Lido)is near the stern however. The ship doesn't roll but does lift and drop with large waves. The ship's doc can give you a jab which prevents nausea & lasts for a cruise period.
Good Luck

I have only just looked at the more recent postings re QE2...as it is such a long time before December I had not given it that much more thought. This week on another cruise forum I saw very mixed reviews. One US travel agent was very scathing about all aspects of the ship. She was in an inside cabin to the aft section and complained about noise. Also said that the service in the Mauretania dining room was poor. However, others said that they had thoroughly enjoyed their cruise. I will have to wait and see. I had thought that such a big ship would be so well stabilised that even rough weather would not be a problem. I must say that this possibility is now my main worry.

Hi-- I've never been on the ship in the winter but I have done several transatlantic in all kinds of weather as well as a cruise which included Norway and Iceland and therefore northern waters. The ship is very well stabilized but if this is transatlantic in winter I would definitely want to take pills or a patch. The service in the restaurants, including Mauritania, is wonderful and if you take late seating you won't feel rushed at all. The only cabins I wouldn't recommend are the inside cabins. Even if you are rarely inside it is hard to wake up in darkness. You should have a wonderful time.
