We loved having a balcony: had our breakfast delivered there in the mornings we were in port, so one of us could eat while the other used the bathroom. We had a drink there in the evening while we were relaxing after a day in port or getting ready for dinner.

If they are offering a deal to upgrade to balcony, do it!!
I LOVE having a balcony but it is NOT the end all to a good cruise..In fact, we just got back from the Golden Princess and had a partially obstructed view on the Emerald Deck ( where the tenders are) and the windows were so big, it did NOT feel obstructed at all..WOULD have loved to had a balcony on this ship as I did have room service daily, but for the price we got the cruise, I was MORE than satisfied with my existing cabin>>>

Good for you. Having a balcony is a nice bonus. To enjoy your own private space. There's some routes that balcony is a definite asset but some routes dont necessarily need it. Also having it on portside is so much fun cuz you see lots of activities going on. I have just finished Panama Canal and had a balcony at the end of the ship. What a wonderful view!!!
