You'll find it very informative. If you aren't already in "Cruise Critic" I would recommend you join their forums as well. Even more information on crusing there.

Hi everyone. I also am new to the site and in my zeal to learn more have now clicked the naughty triangle on Eschew's comment. This was totally inadvertant. I would like to correct my faux pas. Any suggestions???

I have no problem with anything that was said here... I actually find it amusing

Actually it seems to be fine. Heck Eschew needs some "time outs" now and then.

Actually the Mexican food here is great and the market is saturated. Try markets that have a niche for it like say Nome or Pago Pago .

Hi Eschew and Larry - I'm in south Texas and the Mexican food is great!!! I was just reading about HAL's new ship the Konigsdam - sounds lovely - new Pinnacle class - quite a bit more upscale. I believe the inaugural cruise is Feb/16 - guess you will both be on board

Hmm. I didn't know they were building a new class of ship.

I have never been on an inaugural cruise, have you? I don't know if Eschew has.

I would imagine the Tex-Mex down there is great. We have some great Mexican food here too as there are several Mexican enclaves in Chicago. Also a world renown chef, Rick Bayless has three Mexican places here and is building a fourth. He is American and just loves Mexico and Mexican food. He has a show on PBS called "Mexico one plate at a time" and it shows him often going to small towns there for authentic recipes and ingredients.

Hi Larry

I am visiting with my daughter and husband here in Corpus Christi so I'm enjoying the food. I must say back home in Victoria we certainly don't get anything that resembles authentic Mexican. I was also introduced to barbacoa. It is absolutely delicious in a taco (some people may be put off by what it actually is but they eat escargot with no problem!!)

I haven't been on an inaugural cruise but being on the west coast some of the world cruises start off in Vancouver. They sell segments on those and the first segment (short) is always a bargain. We have done that a couple of times and mingled with the "extremely wealthy".

You should check out the new ship - here is where I read about it. It also sounds like they will be offering single cabins which I am happy to hear. Since my husband passed away cruises have been out of the question but in time if it is possible to get a single fare I may do one.

T69, nice to hear from you again. It's been a while. The mexico food is beyond gross. Texas, on the other hand, being closer to the border, can be very authentic.

I didn't know HAL is building a new ship. I have not been on any HAL ship for a very long time now. It is a personal choice as we felt out of place on a HAL ship.

We have been on inaugural cruise (Ruby Princess 2009) and a "preview" but not inaugural cruise (Oasis of the Sea). If you have a chance to book on an inaugural cruise, do it, as ours was a unique experience and we will do it again if the timing works out.

Hello You Guys,
I am also new to Fodors, and on the topic of Mexican food, I would like to inform you, that the Mexican food in Ionia Michigan, always disagrees with you. If you are in search of good Mexican meals, may I suggest... Mexico? I am not being sarcastic or rude when I suggest Mexico, because in my opinion, Mexico is the best place to enjoy a nice mexican dinner.
I would like to ask everybody a question, what is the age limit for Fodors? Because, on many other Forums on here (not this one, I assure you) have people who act 7 or so, making rude remarks.
Thank you,
Zozoyolo

zozooyolo, I am with you on the Mexican food. Best Mexican Food ever for me was a home cook meal in Mexico.

Is there an age limit in Fodors? Don't know, don't think so, and not sure how it can be enforced.

I don't believe we are rude here, just sarcastic.
