Amalfi Drive/Sorrento or Capri

Hi, I've posted this on the Europe board but figure doesn't hurt to post it here as well.

We're going on a cruise and will have the opportunity to do the drive along Amalfi with a visit to Sorrento (via a cruiseship tour) OR a day in Capri (on our own). Unfortunately, we cannot do both as we will only be docked in Naples for the day. Which one would people pick and why? Thanks!

We chose to go to Capri for a day when staying in Naples instead of going to Pompei. Bad decision! Although Capri was nice enough, I felt a bit disappointed with it. There was no "wow" factor IMO. The main drag was a tad too touristy for my liking. We took a taxi to Ana Capri which was a bit better and there were some nice views there. The roads were scary though!
I would do the drive along Amalfi, but I am sure there are others who will say Capri is best!

I agree - drive along Amalfi coast. We were there two years ago and hired scooters in Sorrento and drove the coast for the day. What fun!!! Beautiful!!! Would love to go again. We didnt have time to go to Capri as well so cant comment on that but from our experience you wont be disappointed just doing the coastal drive.

I agree with the previous posts. The Blue Grotto excursion on Capri is a veritable tourist trap. The island is pretty, but not spectacular. The Amalfi Drive trip IS spectacular, especially in the Positano area. And Sorrento is an interesting town. You would enjoy Capri, but you will always remember the Amalfi Drive.

When I was on cruise in 2002, we took the tour that combined Pompei with a tour of the Amalfi Coast. I would highly recommend this. Pompeii is an amazing historic sight and the beauty and thrill of the Amalfi coast tour was a great combined package and well worth the time and money.
