Antigua, when you fly in and see the unbelievable shades of blue you think you are dreaming. When you get to the beaches and realise it is NOT a dream you are in paradise. With 365 beaches you can find a secluded beach on every corner of the island, and if you want complete isolation take a trip to the sister Island of Barbuda and spend a day on soft, pink sand and turquoise water. Antigua leaves all other islands miles behind when it comes to beaches, they are stunning and perfect!

I have been to most of the islands at least once and even tho it technically isn't an island, Cancun has the prettiest water. You have to go to the right part tho, right around the bend by the fiesta Americana.

Although not technically in the Caribbean, I think the Bahamas have some of the most stunning shades of blue and green water. Even in Nassau, depending on where you are on the island, you can see the water change from deep blue, to acqua, to jade green. I love it!!

I'm surprised nobody has said T&C yet. Haven't been there myself but everyone that does seems to rave about the colors of the water as being some of the best.

Yep, I've been to most of the caribbean islands, and while not an island it is on the caribbean sea, the winner is most definitely Cancun. Too bad the strip is so ugly.

Another island with prettier water but again not in the caribbean is Bermuda. Gorgeous aqua water!

All the islands have pretty water like we said above, except maybe St. Lucia. I was underwhelmed by its water. Getting back to my comment on Cancun, the coolest thing about the Cancun water was the colors changed minute to minute.

The closer to the Equator you are, the more brilliant the water appears. Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao are the furthest south, and in my experience have the most incredible water.

Ted, not necessarily true. St. Lucia is probably one the closest islands to the equator and it does not have the pretty blues as anon mentioned above.

Yes, there are other factors, such as sediment content, ocean floor drop-off rates, boat traffic, currents, etc, but as a general rule, the closer to the equator, the more brilliant the water.

I didn't think the water in Aruba off palm Beach was nearly as pretty as that in Anguilla, the Bahamian out islands or Anguilla.

I wasn't impressed with Palm Beach either when we were there in April. I vote for Bermuda.

I second Antigua, amazing beaches. There tends to be a bias towards certain Islands on this board and others are not given the credit they deserve.Atigua is #1!
