Where to stay and What to do in San Juan Puerto Rico
I'm considering going to San Juan Puerto Rico with my boyfriend and another couple, for a week. Any nice places to stay, not too expensive (all-inclusive would be great), and what is there to do for both daytime and nightlife. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I stayed at the Condado Plaza in San Juan two years ago and enjoyed it very much. Here is why -
The hotel itself is very nice with excellent pools, fitness center, nice active lobby, several restaurants, a casino and a popular night club all in the buildings. The beach however, was less than exceptional (small to non existent in some places). But the hotel is owned by the same company that owns the El Conquistador resort, and, I found out from hotel staff (who were extremely friendly and helpful) I could visit and use the facilities there. I rented a car and one day went out to the El Conquistador. They have amazing pools, and a private island beach that was quite nice. So I was able to enjoy the amenities provided by the downtown location of the Condado, and was able to get away to a better beach when I wanted to. It is not inexpensive, but I got a good deal through Liberty Travel. Unfortunately it is not an inclusice resort. Drinks and food are pricey.

Also, since I rented a car, I stopped at the tropical rainforest, which is conveniently located on the way to El conquistador. It is a national park and really an amazing place worth a visit. If youre up for it, you can hike several trails which offer great views when the clouds break. But be prepared - it is a rain forest, it poured for much of my hike. I highly suggest this day trip.

I definitely agree with Tom. I travel to Puerto Rico every two years and my last stay was at the beautiful caribe hilton however, Condado Plaza IS IT! When you call for a reservation ask if there are any promotions going on you might get luck! ADIOS!

you might think rent a car and get outside SJ for a few days. While SJ and Old SJ are both interesting and worth seeing, it sort of reminded me of Miami... we drove to west coast area and stayed two nights at Lazy Parrot Inn in Rincon, using that as a base for exploring western/SW area down to Ponce. There is a system of paradors--small family run inns--throughout the island that are economical, some looked very comfortable, but not lux. East coast area also supposed to be lovely--more Caribbean (Atlantic is on north shore and down the E & W sides of the island, then Caribbean south shore). You may also look into Vieques or Culebra islands. PR is beautiful outside SJ--very mountainous and not at all what we expected. I don't know of any all-inclusives on PR. it's a lovely island. enjoy!

While I agree that Condado Plaza is a nice hotel, I just want to point out that El Conquistador (and El San Juan) were sold to Wyndham last year. Condado Plaza is still owned by Williams Hospitality (I'm pretty sure), so I don't know about sharing of privileges between the resorts.
