Where to Stay
My wife, 21 year old daughter and 17 year old son are planning a trip to the Virgin Islands in June and want to stay on both St. Thomas and St. John. We like nice beaches, snorkeling, nice accommodations and good eating. The girls like the spa. In St. Thomas we stayed at Frenchman's Reef once a few years ago but the Marriot properties look a bit tired. The Ritz is offering good rates in June (by Ritz standards) and the property looks divine but I hate to be captured by their exorbitant food prices and their $35/day resort charge. In St. John, we are not interested in the Westin (poor beach and too commercial) and favor Caneel Bay, but the rooms there are way higher than the Ritz. Would appreciate any advice.

My wife and I did something similar last year. We stayed at the Point Pleasant Resort in St. Thomas. It's very nice and secluded with balconies overlooking St. John, the BVI and Coki Point, and only a few minutes drive from Red Hook, where you catch the ferry to St. John. Although it was just my wife and I, we saw many families at Point Pleasant. Another nice thing is all units have full kitchens to prepare breakfasts, even dinners, and enjoy the view from your balcony. In St. John, we stayed a fews days at Hillcrest Guest House, which has wonderful personal touches from the owners and AMAZING views overlooking Cruz Bay. The reviews of both on tripadvisor are excellent. They're not the least expensive lodgings, but thought I'd mention them since you're considering The Ritz. We booked at www.tripsavercaribbean.com, which in our opinion, had the best package.
Hope this helps.

We are going to St.John in June. We are staying at The St.John Inn.Not sure what kind of accommadations you are looking for.We like to have a decent room with a frig. and comfy bed and that is about all,as we will not be in the room all that much. This inn is a good location .On the website , the rooms look nice too and are very reasonable 110-135 a night.
Good Luck!!

Sounds as if your family likes the same sort of accomadations as my family. We like the Ritz, 4 Seasons, and Hyatt and Hilton in some areas.
We have stayed at the Ritz in Cancun and St. Thomas - both are amazing. Good choice for St. Thomas. On St. John Caneel is also beautiful but like you said pricy even compared to the Ritz...However, I must differ with you on the Westin. We stayed in a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom private villa with private pool and it was beautiful beyond compare. Right up there with some of the best we have stayed at. It is a little more commercialized than some of the other hotels but if your girls like the amenities like I do...The Westin has it all! If you are looking for good beaches - St. John is known for the best beaches...and I think the Westin really does have a nice beach! It does sometimes get a bad rap because St. John has soo many amazing beaches..
