Where to stay 1st time in Jamaica?

Never been to Jamaica and would like suggestions on a place to stay. Guess we'd like an all inclusive, but which one?! Traveling with 2 adults and two boys (10&8).What's the best time of year to go? And, would you do Hawaii or Jamaica?! Thanks!

Your question is very vague. Is there anything in particular that you desire? e.g. excellent beaches, snorkeling, etc. Jamaica's choice of all-inclusives is endless so you need to decide on some activities/amenities that you desire. In consideration of the boys, there is a resort, Boscobel Beach that's wonderful for children. They are known primarily for this. Since the boys are a little older, you could give the Renaissance Jamaica Grande some thought. Beaches resorts also cater to children. Hope others will provide some feedback. It seems to me that you also need a place that has suites/villas.

You should should also check out the Jamaica tourist board's site and look into which town would appeal to you. Personally, I think Ocho Rios would be more appealing with the children in towe since there is more to do there. Negril is more of an adult playground.

Well, I would not compare Jamaica to Hawaii, they are just different experiences. Unless you are on the West Coast, Hawaii is a long haul for the kids!

Any further ?s, let us know.

Andrea had good suggestions. One other place to add is Half Moon. They have villas and would be great for kids, but pricey.

Personally, I would rather take my kids to Hawaii due to safety concerns in Jamaica. (I don't mean to open up a can of worms here!)

In my opinion, safety is not much of a problem in Jamaica if you stay at an all-inclusive resort and visit other areas in escorted groups. It is more of a concern in you want to stay at a less expensive hotel and explore on your own. Beaches Negril would be a good choice with kids, if you can afford it. I would avoid July through October.
Just got back from Mo'Bay, JA this month. You can read my post dated 8/18/00, "Back from Sunset Beach" under this forum.

I visited with my family, which includes two children ages 9 & 12.

I'd recommend my resort the Wyndham Rose Hall. We feature a new waterpark called sugar mill falls and we offer great deals on All inclusive packages. If you go before Sept. 30th, the kids stay and eat free. Call 800-wyndham to check it out. Good luck!
